I just got a XPS M140 and I cannot get it to run at its full speed (1.86ghz)

Anyone know how to fix this?

I've went into the bios and messed with the speedstepping or whatever its called. I've also went into power meter and changed everything to desktop and still nothing has changed..

How?!

You probably just cant view it throttling up. Download CPU-ID, when you open the program you will likely see the throttle up, then back down. Speedstep son.

Thing is when I turn it off it doesn't go to the full mhz..

So how do I make it go @ 1.86ghz

Make sure you "power options" are NOT on "max battery" for starters. If you want it to always be @ 1.86, put your power options to "always on" and restart, then you will be throttled up always. By the way, how are u reading your clock speed? If your using start, system that will only give you your clock at that given time which is most likely throttle down. Like I said, get CPU-ID, and open it because it will allow you to see multiple speeds, like a spedometer.

ITs already on "always on" Also.. I got CPU-ID and it only goes up to 798mhz.. thats the top mhz I seen.

Look at the "clocks" section and watch "core speed" right when you open it. Does it throttle up?

Lets back up, go into bios and under "performance" make sure speedstep is ENABLED! Do not turn this off.

Ok its on now.. and still the same thing. It maxes out at 798mhz

With this CPU program whats the "Retired instructions" box represent? and then the top box "non halted clock cycles"

Uh, make sure you get the application from cpuid.com. Is that the one you have?

Eh.. got the wrong one but now I got the CPU-Z program..

Still says 798mhz and my FSB is @ 133mhz... under SPD it says the max bandwidth of the ram is 266mhz.. how the hell is that.

Don't worry about that, just close the program, then open it and watch the core speed. It should fluctuate!

If all else fails, update your bios and chipset drivers. Should be good after that. I gotsta go for now. Lemme know how it all works out.

Ok, last post then I really gotta go. In your bios, make sure you enable your max and min clock frequencies, probably 600 and 1800mhz under performance. Let me know, ill check back in 8 hrs LOL!

there is nothing about performance or anything on changing the clock frequencies

Check under processor or something similar. There will be clock adjustment settings somewhere there.
