Lost option to hibernate and standby during XP Pro update of M6805

Thread Starter
I was upgrading a M6805 from Xp home to pro (not clean install), and now I've lost my ability to go into standby or hibernate modes. Standby option is visible but greyed out in the shutoff menu.

I've been reinstalling drivers (VIA for in one, Athlon64), and I flashed bios with newest M6805 version on this site. But still no luck.

I was hoping you guys might have an easy answer

Thanks so much!

couple suggestions:
1. enable power management support
2. hibernation must be enabled in power management
3. do u have the correct display driver installed?

cheers ...

Thanks for the quick reply. Where do I enable power management support? I have enabled all I can from CP -> power options

I am having difficulties with display drivers. I have been trying to install ATI catalyst, but it won't let me complete. It says "please configure using VGA settings", and there are no display drivers visible under Hardware.

Do you think the display driver area is the way to go? I'm going to try Omega drivers when I get home and see if I can get through the install that way.

Thanks again for any tips!

Power Management:
1. system -> hardware->device manager->computer->properties: make sure that this is Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC, if not go into update driver and chose the option MANUALLY (no, not this time, chose from a location ...)
2. u might need to update the processor driver from AMD Mobile (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._12474,00.html
)

Display Driver:
1. uninstall your graphic device,
2. clear out all register entries (regclean or something like that) and let windows first configure the default display -
3. and then re-install ATI.

cheers ...

Xp Sp2?

i also had a lot of power related issues, not when upgrading to xp pro but after installing sp2.
you did not mention if you had installed sp2 but there is a lot of issues (especially acpi issues) with it and the early m68xx series bioses.
i cured my problems by updating my bios to the targa 0F09.P00 bios which is available on targa's website (you want the visionary model).
i also noticed a big improvement in speed and stability with all software.
i was initially nervous about upgrading because you can easily render your laptop inoperable if something goes wrong.
however, worst case scenerio is having to buy a new bios chip or reflash yours externally if you have access to a eprom programmer.
i would recommend searching this forum and reading up on everything related to bios upgrades before attempting to do so.
but it was definately one of the best upgrades that i have done so far.
