I have to find it again but i read an amazing article on the production life of a dell laptop. THe ones the come from overseas are ordered online, approved and every 2 hours parts are sent from suppliers to the factory (at least for the factory the reporter was studying) Then they are kitted, built, tested, and boxed. This is in china i think for this example. Then still in the "boxing" stage it rolls onto a cargo plane and flies to nashville tennessee where they plane is unloaded and the basic systems are then sorted and labeled for shipping to you. IT was a pretty awesome article. So the boxing stage includes flying over from overseas, then it goes to shipping prep.

From what I know, Boxing stage takes 1-3 days because of the process of shipping from Malaysia to Nashville. Then it is sort and loaded on Dell planes and ship to local carrier for delivery. Is faster and cheaper for Dell. And you should had really got at least a Dual Core...just a suggestion

Ah malaysia that was it! Thanks for the rep. For m1710 and E1705's that have one day boxing i have heard that they come from the texas manufacturing plant. If it takes the 3 day timeframe it is a fly in from malaysia. I personally hope my m1710 is coming from texas just so it gets to me 2 days sooner!

they didnt know waht i was getting until they put it into production. they said it was up to the dispatch team..by the time i was able to see the specs they said it was too late. it is that big of a difference? i heard core solo is still better than pentium m. true? and the new hdd is SATA, ion think the old one is. what are the benifits?
thanks

Duo Core = twice of solo. That is what I heard.

boxing stage means that it's being shipped from China/Taiwan/etc... to the US. Once it arrives here and leaves the distribution center, then it will go into the shipping stage.

Here we go! I found the article that explains the whole laptop manufacture and shipping in detail:

and a nice picture tour of a dell manufacture plant:
