Ehh, if you want to express your frustration, I think there is a general forum to vent on. Crapping a legitamite thread just because you don't like the topic is sorta bad form mate.
And although some people put a bit too much merit into 3dmark scores, a lot of people do enjoy bigger numbers from a hobby perspective. And since it would get a bit tedious signature wise to put average FPS for every single major gaming engine, including resolution, AA/AF settings and texture settings, etc, etc -- 3dmark will have to suffice keeping in mind that it is a contrived benchmark and that is it. It will give you some reasonable semblance of how a rig does with that particular set of benchmarking variables, ie 03, 05, 06 and that's that.
And in 6 months, the score mongers will be either buying new rigs, Frankenrigging their current lappies, or do some horrendous voltmodding expose that looks contrived by a monkey with a soldering iron that was in a Radio Shack when a tornado hit.
I tinker with my car just as I do with my electronics. I get happiness out of making things "better" in my vision. I can take the car to a dyno, and get my "3d05" score with a sheet of paper and smile, and take it out to the 1320 for a similiar experience. Does that give, to the outsider, a reasonable idea of how the car performs overall? Perhaps, but in lieu of giving everyone that asks a ride down 15 different roads in varying conditions, that's all most people will know.
Just my 2 cents and a mild rant attached to it.
