1 GB Ram not enough for new games!

Hi all

I have come to the conclusion 1GB ram is not enough for FEAR and Bf2.

I think this is beacause the 7900gtx takes 256 system mem away.

Would you agree with this statement,

Where is the best place to buy the mem in europe or ship to europe.

Thanks for you help

No. It either has 256 or 512 on board depending on the chip you buy. In the 1710, it's 512. But you do need 2 GB for all the massive amounts of memory each of those games take up. On a good day, they take up around 800 MB or more of system RAM.

I ordered 2 1GB from Newegg.com...

from newegg.com...Crucial high dollar stuff and going from 1GB to 2GB did not make any difference on COD2 if that matters....

I assure you it is not on a 64 player map with every setting maxed.

ok w e

my bro has a way crappier rig than that and has 1 gig and plays bf2 with 64 ppl everything on and at highest with a 6800 vanilla

It has been proven time and time again that bf2 plays best with more than 1 gig ram.
Unless you want to deal with poor fps or lower quality settings you should go for it. I guess we will all have 4 gigs in our systems this time next year.

I find that really hard to believe. I am willing to bet he doesn't have the resolution maxed. It plays like crap with 1GB and max settings

That's impressive...

I know that my old setup with 1 GB of RAM and 6800 Go Ultra chugged on BF2.

My current setup has none of the problems that I experience before.

...I played FEAR on my XPS2 with settings maxed out w/o issues... THere are other things that can affect your computer performance besides RAM.....

-are you running on a clean install or a Dell bloatware ad campaign install?

-how many processes are you running in the background, current PF usage?

-What video drivers are you using?

I played F.E.A.R. on my older system with 1GB of RAM and a 7800GT in my desktop and it was perfectly fine at 1280x1024.

I assure folks that running at a good resolution, most likely 1440x900 in this case, with 1GB of ram, and a 7800Go or higher is plenty to get perfectly fine framerates.

This should be proof enough that this poster is a waste of oxygen in the technical field. Don't even bother listening to what he/she says.

F.E.A.R. is far more of a system hog than Battlefield 2.

In fact, I just purchased BF2 a few weeks ago for $19.90 at Staples and was quite upset and how outdated it looked already. I guess that's why they're pushing BF 2142 out by the end of this year. It's still fun as hell, don't get me wrong but yes, it does look dated already.

And yes I'm playing it at 1680x1050 with everything on high.

Anything above 30 is perfectly playable.

No, you don't. 1920 x 1200? Soft Shadows? Volumetric Shadows?

Depends on where you are on the map... if it's 30 with a bunch of people around, then okay, but if it's just sitting there not moving with no people around, it might be unplayable.

I'm saying 25-30 minimum. So yes you can assume 30 when many other players are on the screen.
