2010 = stupid sign here if u agree.

Thread Starter
Im sorry but 3500$ base price for a bulky notebook(?), that only has a single x1800 in it? that is gay. hopefully dell comes out with something to answer the m9700 or even the mALX...

(lol the screen is 21inch and is sxga )

EDIT: sorry if this sounds like a flame thread, i just was waiting for the new dell xps and then this came out. btw my friend just got a job @ dell so i get 15% off dell and AW :P

I like the idea, what i needed from my laptop was one that i could take from country to country portability was not an issue, i really acted as a desktop that had the screen inlcuded.

But the GFX card on the 2010 is not good enough comparred to the 1710 and the screen could be higher res.

The idea needs develpment that all, soon dell will have a kick arse machine.
It's just overpriced (WAY) and needs better graphics, ESPECIALLY for that price.
If the graphic card performs well..... it has to be better than 1710, if not, it's not worth it.

Ya. I used that word awhile back when I was describing Dell's tech support, and I got a lot bad rep for it. People on this forum get offended way too easily and need to grow up.

you mean flies to sh*t right?

The price is just fine, and you know why?

It's a niche item, even moreso than the M1710. It's designed for people who not only want a desktop replacement, but a great little enclosed HD entertainment center.

It's 3500 bucks because it's still technically a "concept" piece.

maybe the reason for the screen being 1680 by 1050 is becuase it will play games better@ native res. instead of using something like 1920 by 1200.
witch the x1800 can handle np.- they should however offer it with a 7900gtx

im sure they will fine tune this thing. i lke the idea of a portable desktop, the sleek factor, and of course the "inspector gadget" style 4-1 optical drive.
theres alot of features but, they do not justify the price.

I think it is a great concept. I love the idea of having a nice stylish desktop that I can carry with me when I go places for extended stays. I hate having to back up my data from desktop to my portable and it really irritates me I forget something very important and I am 1000 miles away from my desktop. This will help alot of corporate executive types solve this problem. This is surely a niche product but this forum is so gaming centric and heavy gamers are very much still a niche group also. I think has large PC companies like Dell continue to try and grow they must continue to create niche products like this to help them evolve and grow.

As for this product, sure there are some things I would prefer, like a higher resolution panel. But at this time does a higher resolution 20" exist? The GPU is fine for me and with the possibility of HD/BluRay, Vistas and merom right around the corner this type of machine would make a great dormroom/bedroom entertainment system.

Good concept, but poor execution without the top of the line video card (should probably be SLI/crossfire at that price) and too pricey

Perhaps, but on the other hand, I can't think of any good reason for using "gay" as a pejorative. What if the people reading your post weren't straight? You can't see how using the word "gay" in a negative, mocking tone might be seen as offensive? I doubt most folks would use the word in the same manner if speaking directly with a gay person - they know offense would be taken - unless intent on provoking ill will.

Apologies to the OP for going O/T, but felt this issue needed to be addressed.

quoted for truth

besides, its like one of the first in its kind, sony made a vaio 'concept' pc a few years ago, and it looks like something expensive hotels or rich art collectors would buy (not the average gamer) ...not a good example but you get the picture.

I would like to see this machine like many others have the options to make a serious gaming machine. Which hopefully Dell will do and it would be sweet to be able to have the ability and the life expectancy path of a desktop upgrade wise. I would be all over it. So cmon Dell Give us a beast put somthing under the hood and yea that would be so cool .....hmmmmmm a hood latch No more screws. just pull the hood latch and pop in a new video Card or processor as they come out. LOL

I don't think this thing is meant for gamers. It's meant as a semi-portable media center. So I'm confused why some think it should have sli/crossfire or a higher res screen. Not everyone plays games.

Let's get something straight, XPS does not mean it's necessarily for "gamers" it means it is of exceptional quatlity. Much like Sony has Wega for it's highest end (or that's what they used to call it).

That being said, if I were looking for a nice semi portable media center, I would get one in a second. I think it is sexy as hell. It just doesn't meet my needs.

i dunno how the x1800 stacks up with the 7800 go but i imagine there on par with each other.

my 6800/u is faster than the 7800 by a small margin. :-)
i wouldn't say is sucks, its more like, a good step in a new direction, and room for improvement

Wicket you forgot one minor detail:

I paid $1100 for my system, I can buy 3 - 1705s with my specs, and still have $200 left over... OR have one of those.

And my system is ACTUALLY a laptop, that I can toss in a backapck in 1 minute notice, and take off with.

But its cool to compare an $1100 item, and a $3500 item - isn't it?

PS: I'm in the process of ordering a 7900GS and a 2.0GHz processor - just got my system. So that'll bring me up to around $1500, for a machine that would kick the 2010s ass, is half the size, and 1/3 the price

Last note: And what was the last thing you ran which required anything over 2GB DDR2? Ya, thought so

The thing I don't understand is that the m1710 is expensive, because of the truelife 17" LCD screen (in addition to the other parts). I can't imagine the panel on this m2010 costing that much, considering that you can pickup 20" widescreens with the same resolution for around 300-350 bucks. Why not just rip one of these out? Yes I know, the LCD power supply and controller, but the miniaturization of those really can't justify the massive price difference, between the low end m2010 and the m1710.

And the x1800? Where did that suddenly come from. I'm really surprised that dell didn't just use the parts they already had available... like a 2007 screen, a 7900gs video, and slap them into a tight little box with a funky slot loading drive.
