Why should Acer Ferrari owners have all the fun?

Hey everyone. I thought I would post some pics of my new 9750 just for fun.

First off I would like to say home much I love this forum. I have leaned so much from everyone here about my laptops and have found a vast amount of very useful information that. Thanks to all.

My first Sager was an 8790. It served me well but after a year of owning it if died on me. I think it was the MB or something. Funny thing is that it died just shortly after the one year warranty expired.

I ordered a my 9750 from PC torque because I have heard so many positive things on this forum about them, but my experience buying from them was not as expected. First off, I dialed the wrong number; I phone tech support instead of sales. The guy on the other line seemed rude and short, as though he couldn’t be bothered by me. He didn’t even transfer me to sales, but rather just told me I have to wrong number, that he was only tech support and to call the sales number myself. Okay, I guess he was having a bad day so I let that one go. When I put in my order to PC torque, I wanted to change my configuration. I sent emails directly to Sales and via PC torque website. No reply at all. I decided to wait a while incase they were busy. After about 3 weeks I sent another email asking about the progress of my laptop. Finally I got a reply stating my video card was on back order and they would not be able to complete the building process until the card was in. Why the hell didn’t any one let me know this? I would have changed to an in stock video card. This is what I requested them to do in the first place. I finally got a confirmation that the video card was swapped for one that was in stock. The funny thing was I was sent a tracking number for the laptop, but was unable to track the package at all. All it said on the UPS website was that the shipping information was sent to USP for pickup. I checked the tracking number every day, but it said the same thing up until the day the computer arrived. What the hell is the point of a tracking number is you can’t use it? I’m spending around 5K on a laptop and this was not the kind of service I expected. I don’t think that I will purchase another Sager through PC Torque again. This is my first business machine from PC torque and my last. The machine I received had scratches on the lid and the power bar. It looked like it was a used machine. Based on my experience with PC Torque so far I figured it would be too much trouble to make an issue of it. I don’t expect to get satisfactory customer service from them any ways, and figured it would be more of a head ache than it’s worth.

Other than my buying experience I love my laptop. My first impression was "THIS THING IS HUGE" Even the box was huge. As with my old 8790 I applied carbon fiber metallic on the palm rest to prevent paint wear. Looks great to me. I also applied a thin sheet of real carbon fiber on the lid and got an aluminum Laborghini emblem to cover the sager logo. I like it and my laptop gets lots of looks from people.

Configuration is
Sager 9750
Athlon FX6
Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX
2 - 100GB SATA in RAID 0
2GB DDR2 533Mhz
802.11 G Turbo w/Bluetooth
Drive 1 DVD-RW
Drive 2 CDR-W / DVD Rom
TV Tuner
IBM PCMCIA Biometric Fingerprint Reader
Targus 315 Deluxe
Logitech G& Laser Mouse

Let me know what you think…

Holy sh!t that's sexy.

Nominated as the nicest laptop I've seen here @ NBF. Good Job. I love it, very, very nice. I am officially envious.

That is just GORGEOUS, looks very professional. Where did you get the carbon Fiber Metallic?

Very nice. And not a lil bit jealous, I have to say; especially me still being an 8790 owner...

it looks very clean

you should see how filthy mine has gotten

Oh really nice.. I like the carbon over the palm rest. My first machine I wore the paint off of it and when it went in for repairs..Sager replaced it with a new one and I didn't even ask them. So second time around i stuck to a external keyboard because I dont want to risk the paint coming off again. Did you put the Carbon on yourself (can't tell really looks professional)...tell us how you did it :P

I would really like to know as my 9880 is starting to seem a bit boring... and I would like to liven it up a bit... and did you buy that lamborghini emblem from the factory?.. and how did you pry off the origional... I was thinking of doing something similar with a VW one...

It does look really nice. I like the carbon fiber everywhere. BUT, I am a Ferrari 4005 owner and while the lappy is beautiful, I like it even more because of the functionality and overall performance for a reasonably lightweight laptop.

Mine tips the scales at 6.3 lbs with the optical drive in.

Great job on the modded Sager though, looks absolutely amazing!!!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments. I did all the cutting and carbon fiber application myself. I purchased everything on eBay and it was cheap. Here is a link to where I bought the metallic carbon fiber vinyl

I am in no way putting down Acer Ferrari laptops. I to love the look of the acer ferrari computers, but I needed more performance thus I purchased a 9750. Congrats to all the acer ferrari owners, I love your machines.

FriedToas, you are fortunate that your 8790 is still alive and kicking. If mine were still alive I would still be using it right now. I loved that machine. No kidding, in one of my condos I stay at on weekends the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. The first thing I grabbed when I woke up was my 8790 and ran out the door haha!

oh yeah, the sager logo was a bitch to get off. I ended up not taking it off and just applied the carbon fiber over it and put the Lamborghini emblem on top of the carbon fiber.

Wow that is freaking hot. Like someone said earlier, looks like a very professional job. How exactly did you apply the materials over the palm rests? The eBay advertisement mentions a "Adhesive: 1.0 mil. clear permanent adhesive." Does that mean there's an adhesive on one side of the material that you can simply apply to the palm rest surface after cutting it to fit the shape?

Actually the carbon fiber metallic sheet already has the adhesive on the back of it. It's the peel and stick kind. I cut a sheet roughly the size of the entire palm rest, then peeled it and used an exacto knife to slowly cut the edges off. It was real simple. Oh by the way, the laptop cost a little over $4700.00.

That is an awesome job you did there. Would you mind going into a little more detail on how you did the coating? I would really like to do something similar.
wow thats really nice looking. i woundn't mi.nd some more details myself
post #18 of 24
Looks absolutely sweet and professional. Props. I've been wanting to do the same thing. Just wondering, if you used real carbon fiber for the back lid, how difficult was it to cut? Did you use any special cutting tools? Thanks...
