Acer Aspire 5672 Review - Page 11

I have Doom 3, and i run it at 1024 res at high settings with above 30 average fps. Usually around 40 and drops around 20 when some enemies come to screen.

CS:S usually stays above 30 when i played, but so far i havent tried playing with the new voltage.

Evaders99 the drop in voltage for the CPU is a fix for our Acer 4402/4 model, which comes with a CPU that gets very hot-- dropping performance when playing. with lower voltages temps get much better and now we can play. i need to try 3dmark05 to see my score.

I dont think we have a 64bit bus--- 64mb x700 scores between 1300-1800 in 3dmark05 and thats the 128bit model.

besides ATT shows the X1600 of Thelonesoldier and Evaders99 as being 64bit, whereas it shows mine to be 128bit.

The only game I loaded up at the moment was Empire at War: Forces of Corruption demo. The graphical settings were set at medium, 1024x768 res, no antialiasing. I know this isn't a graphical overload, esp since the game doesn't use really high graphics anyway. No lag in the space and ground combats, around 90 FPS according to ATT

We'll see what happens when I get Doom 3 loaded

Ok i tried assault, the bots really kill my fps but in your situation i was averaging about 25fps, it would dip down to 18 then go back up into the 30s. It was playable but not totally smooth. What are your fps?
Pretty much the same in the situation I described, although I used bots on Expert (which take up slightly more resources, the difference between 15 Easy bots and 15 Expert bots is about 10fps on my computer)

hey ryzeki have you re-ran 3dmark05 to see if ur scores change? Also, lonesoldier, I checked ATIs site and it doesn't list the x1600 as having a 64bit bus which makes me wonder if acer can legally do that and still call it an x1600, seems like a jip to me for sure. I'm not sure if there are specs that it has to be within to be called an x1600 but it seems iffy to me for sure.

I re-ran my 3dmark05 but i scored the same heh. 1185 more or less. still im ok with it as i can play Doom 3 now on 1024 res at high settings... most areas are around 60fps and only drops to 30ish with stuff happens- with the lowest i have seen of 20fps.

My ATT score increase to 1554, and overall my gaming experience greatly increased-- i can play FEAR at 800x600 with medium-high settings at constant 30+ fps.

I need to get my hands on CS:S-- i cant install right now because my Dvd drive is not working (windows doesnt recognize it for some unknown reason). when i get the chance ill get to try Prey and 3dmark03 to check score changes (i doubt 3dmark03 will change).

I get about the same, a little higher due to my CPU and an OC, the omega drivers really helped me out, go to D3d standard tweaks and check "Disable Block Write", that gets rid of the stutter problem if you're having one.

Well, i am able to play any game right now. Prey i can play at the same settings like Doom3, except i get a little less framerate sometimes but playable. Battlefield 2142 runs around 30fps, and lowest so far has been 18-20, but it hasnt been a problem and i can play well (altho settings are at medium)

Fear is (very)playable at medium-high 800x600.

I think that after reading thru the performance of this Acer 5672 and our Travelmate 4402/4--- there is not much of a difference.

I guess ill pass up this machine and wait for something else, or aquire a full 128bit X1600/Nvidia 7600.

i might even wait for the next gen of mobile cards.

edit: er, weird. Never mind.

ya I'm gonna hang on to my 4404 until the DX10 comes out, Its not worth rebuying rite now, I was hoping for a big performance difference with the 5672

Homeworld 2 - 1024x768, all high settings except Shadows off. Shadows make the FPS dip tremendously in the closest LoD
30-40 FPS on standard fleets
Playing with SW mod, 30-40 FPS.. even with hundreds of ships. Dips into 20 FPS with larger ships and many many weapons

Dark Star One - 1024x768, all medium settings except Shadows off. Good 30 FPS

I sent a support request to Acer like two weeks ago and they finally got back and said they do not and will not ever offer driver updates for the card. That's sickening. I'm never going to buy Acer again.

I would like to replace the optical drive on this laptop. Can some tell me step by step the procedures to remove the optical drive. I cant seem to find anything that helps.
