hmmm.... not sure abt headphones, but it fits jacks nicely with my 2.1 speakers.
Turns out my headphones fit after all...the jack is quite tight, and I guess I was being a candya$$ and didn't want to really push the jack in too hard...
haha... yeah it abit tight at the power supply jack also.

I did a research in ACER sites in Europe and I discoverd that ACER has the 5672 with ATI X1600 256 MB dedicated but with a 1,66 CPU. In Sweden and Norway there are these models :

Windows® XP Home Edition Intel Centrino Duo T2300 1.66GHz processor, 15.4" WXGA CrystalBrite 16ms, 120GB 5400rpm, 1024MB (2*512) DDRII, DVD Super Multi (slot), ATI X1600, 128MB/256 Hypermemory, WLan a/b/g, Bluetooth, 1.3MP kamera, VoIP Bluetooth telefon

Windows® XP Home Edition , Intel Centrino Duo T2600 2.16GHz processor, 15.4" WXGA CB 16ms, ATI X1600 256MB/512MB Hypermemory, 2048MB (2*1024) DDR2, 120GB 5400rpm S-ATA, HD DVD drive, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth, 1.3MP Orbi kamera

Unless they mean ATI can go to 256 or 512MB as a hypermemory card. I can't be sure with ACER.
ACER Sweden

ACER gives different models in different countries and we cannot find what we want
WHY?????

cuase acer hate american's. rofl

i dunno why you'd figure the richest country would get the best products.. tisk tisk.

id like 2 see a bench of this:
Windows® XP Home Edition , Intel Centrino Duo T2600 2.16GHz processor, 15.4" WXGA CB 16ms, ATI X1600 256MB/512MB Hypermemory, 2048MB (2*1024) DDR2, 120GB 5400rpm S-ATA, HD DVD drive, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth, 1.3MP cam.
then another one with powerstrip.

I stopped into CompUSA on the way home on Friday and saw the 5672 with the X1400. It was just sitting there, running and I put my hand on it and it was Very warm. That's without games. I didn't want to think about it being hotter.

My sister says it runs warm but it's not burning her She says "I can always get the laptop cooler". She seems to be enjoying hers with the X1600 so far, though she's getting lag in WoW where she is right now, I think it's the internet connection (a latency issue). She's on dialup.

I'm definitely leaning towards the ASUS S96J. I can get it with the 1.8ghz processor and the X1600 with 256 for $955 from Mwave, without memory and HD. I'll pick those up separately and I figure it'll be maybe 60-70 more than the 5672.

Has anyone purchased a built system from Mwave before?

the sticker on my 5672 says ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 up to 512 mb hypermemory.

All hardware software (belaruc, aida32, nHC) lists it as 512mb adapter ram.

I don't see the fuss over the 1600 vs 1400. It's still an underpowered graphics card, but better than on board shared graphics.

I certainly wouldn't spend several hundred dollars more (new mobo) to upgrade a cheap laptop to begin with. I could build a nice ASUS for the money spent. At the time I bought this for the hard disk space, ram, dual core, screen, built in connectivity, etc. For the money it's not bad if it doesn't croak from the heat, but upgrading it? No way

I finally pulled the trigger and ordered the 5672 x1600 (128mb) yesterday after looking at all other notebooks on the market including the Asus s96j's.

Bottom line is that it's just a great deal! Anything else would cost $300-400 more minues some of the features included in 5672 such as bluetooth.

I ended up paying ~$1200 including a 3 year TotalProtection warrenty. So what if it gets warm and melts down, I'll get a replacement. I'm not a heavy gamer either so the x1600 128mb should run great compared to my old desktop running Athelon 1800+ and ATI 9550 256mb. Heck, the 5672 x1400 I tried already blew away my expectations.

Yeah, for about another $300, I could get an Asus from gentec or cyberpowerpc which is faster... but if they overheat and melt down 2 years from now, I'd be out of luck.

My new toy should be in my hands tomorrow night. Whoohoo. =)

I just recieved my 5672 (x1600) yesterday from newegg. I also got the three year protection plan. So far I haven't really had any problems. I didn't do a clean install or anything. I deleted some of the acer software, and updated the synaptic driver. scrolling now works in mozilla/firefox. my only gripe so far (as I haven't tried any games yet, but then again I only play diablo/sacred type games) is the heat. it is noticeable. it heats up really quick idling or surfing the net. my hand got a little dried up from the heat yesterday. the heat comed from both handrests, but mostly from the right one. the keyboard gets a little warm as well. I was running spybot yesterday and the cpu reached 60C. as soon as it stopped searching for spyware, the temp came back down to around 53C. while surfing, it floats around 50C-53C. hopefully the lapcool2 thats coming in might take care of the heat both underneath and on the handrests.

this may be a dumb question, but is there any way to upgrade the fan or cooling system for this lappy or any laptop for that matter (besides using a cooler)?

Thanks!

I ordered it too and I'll have it in two days. So I 'll give my impressions during the weekend and maybe I 'll post a review.

If I get the x1600 5672 that comes with 1GB RAM, does it have a free slot to upgrade it to 2GB? Or does it come with 2x512MB taking up both memory slots? I want this machine but I want it with 2GB..
It comes with 2x512MB unfortunately.

Well I've been using the lapcool2 the last few days, and unfortunately it has no cooling effect on the palm rest. It keeps the bottom cool though, but i don't see any real effect on reducing the heat of the cpu and hdd, maybe a 1C difference. i wonder if the 3 fan ebay cooler would help since it can be rotated so that the two fans are more directly on the hdd.

Same result here with laptop cool2. Dismal. I've thought about the 3 fan ebay one, but it's open on the bottom and not suited to lap use. I have seen some lower temps using NHC to undervolt. Until there is a software fan available for always on, nothing is going to help with cooling these 5672's. I scoured the web for one with no luck. Maybe Acer will provide a bios update to re-enable that feature like they had on their 5000 series.

soo with these 3dmark scores is it possible that on the '06 version that they scoring standards have been set higher then on the '05, to incorperate SLI, and PhysX ??? maybe that's why the 3d marks are so low in the '06 versions anybody done a test on '05 and '06 and seen the point difference? kinda makes me wonder, seems like similiar to the vista capable utility it won't give u a perfect score unless you have a hybrid hdd. like the standards are set high for technology that is still just hitting the market.
The 3dmark05 for this laptop(5672 with x1600 128mb) should be around 2.9k and the 3dmark06 around de 1.25k

3dmark06 uses physics in a tests, and some other things so the score is calculated differently. i also think that your CPU score heavily influences your 3dmark06 score.

Yes I bought it, but the lack of time don't give me the chance to to write a review
ACER 5673 specs :
Core Duo T2400 1,83GHz
2GB DDR2 533
120GB 5400rpm SATA
ATI X1600 128MB (512 HM)

Actually it's a 5672 with a X1600 from ATI, so most of the things written about 5672 are the same for that model.
It's fast in CPU (1min 20 secs for SuperPi) but average in the GPU measures (it gets around 2800 in 3DMark05 with the latest Omega drivers). This happens because of the 128MB the card has and the 439/369 speeds of core/memory. The card is locked and you cannot overclock it (it would be nice to increase the memory speed that's too low).
The only thing to consider (in my opinion) is the heat. I live in Greece and it's actually quite hot that period of year. Inside my house and without air conditioning still installed (about 25 Celcius) the cpu temperature in idle mode is about 50-55 degrees (C) and at maximum perfomance around 70-72 degrees (C). In the second case it's getting hot but you can still use the palmrest area without problem. The only bad thing is the hot air pushed in your right hand while using the mouse (you are lucky if you are left handed )

-The temperatures were measured with MobileMeter)-

These are my first impressions...... I'll get back when I have time.

I just want someone to confirm please that the machine doesnt get performance hit due to heat. what i mean is, to chech that the cpu doesnt underclock while being used at 100% for a while, because it reaches a high temp.

and easy way to check this i suppose would be to use a program that measures temps, and running prime while checking temps and CPU speed. i suggest Notebook Hardware Control and Prime95 for this.

if ineed the max is 70-72°C, and there is no performance hit, i might get this laptop after all.
