Strange hard drive noise ?

I have this strange noise my laptop hard drive is making when I scroll a web page.

Like as if something is whirling. At the moment id does not happen all the time. But on occasion.

Is this normal? Or maybe someone has some ideas?

This usually happens when a webpages has lots of pictures on it.

Does not happen when there is jsut text and a few pictures.

Maybe I need to defragment? Althought I did just that recently.


Anonyone ?

I don't know. Perhaps it's the HDD spinning? I don't know. Is it loud (as in you can hear it when you're not paying attention)?

Ok, the sound happens when:

On occasion (not always)

- I minimze a window - explorer or firefox - usually when there is lots of stuff shown.

- When a web page is open with lots of picture

- In Picasa, when I have scrolled all the way down when pictures end, and I keep on scrolling(it does not scroll, i just hold the mouse down) the sound appears.

The sound is similar to that of a Door which is making a tweaking sound or as if you something is spinning in something else, like a wheel and if you do not add oil to it it makes this squickeen, tweeking (however you call it) sound. Although the soudn is tiny, but I can still hear it.

I did defragment? And also reinstalled WIndows. (not beacause of that) still it happens on occasion.

Maybe I need to RMA my hdd with Asus?

I know it's an stupid question, that I will be wasting your time if this proves wrong: try to reproduce the sound while leaving the sound muted. There is an annoying sound event that do this, and the first thing I always do is to deactivate it. If I activate the sound event, the sound will play sometimes, when I'm on firefox, and also when an application is opened (background task). I opened Picasa here and I noticed that when it calls its updater program, the sound is activated.

If this does not work, I will leave you alone.
