Which brand is easiest to take apart?

I was just wondering which brand is easiest to take apart and fix?

Generally, any barebones system will be easy to open for service and maintain, e.g. MSI, Asus (the Built On Asus systems, not the Ensemble units), Quanta, Compal. Any of the major brands like Dell will be relatively difficult to open up, as they don't want laypeople futzing around their laptops.

It will really depend on the model. For example, IIRC, there is a model by MSI that is quite difficult to barebone-fill it (one of the small models). Others are easier, and can be more than other brands well known for making easy barebones.

Dells are very easy to take apart.. they always publish a very detailed guide on how to take apart any model... not so many companies do this afaik.

rule of thumb that 12 inchers will be harder than 15 or 17 inchers regardless of model.

from my experience Asus, IBM and Uniwill aren't that bad to rape inside out.

Dell, HP & lenovo

Dell, HP & lenovo have very detail documents on the web to teach users how to take the laptop apart.

Among these 3 brands, I feel Dell is the easiest.

Just to add, Quanta (from the Sabio Digital site) also have very detailed manuals on how to put together/take apart/ upgrade/ other with your laptop. I used it to swap my hdd in and out no probs. Three pictures and abit of text and arrows pointing. Easy as easy pie.

So where can you get these "manuals" for taking apart stuff, specifically dells.

go to the Dell site and click support or similar link. There should be dissaembly manuals there unless Dell doesn't have them because tehy don't want ppl fiddling with their laptops. Other than that google it and something should come up.

Yeah, the MSI 12" are a real B**ch to take apart and put back together.

But nothing compares to the mac laptops (Powerbook G4 titanium in particular)...took me over 4 hours to disassemble and well over 8 to put back together...3 times...it's like trying to reassemble a 19th century swiss watch....with sausage-fingers! ....

IBM/Lenovo also does this. Great documentation...I think HP also has them available too...

BTW, how do you like your 9420? I'm thinking of getting one myself as a desktop replacement.

ECS laptops are usually easy to crack open, but I can't recommend them for their quality issues.
