I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade our lappies to a blue ray drive.

Hmm... seeing as how the first Blu Ray drives will cost around 600 bucks each (just for a player), I doubt we will be seeing a slim-line version of these anytime during the lifetime of your notebook.

worse comes to worse you can probably get one as an external usb 2.0 drive sooner than you will be able to get one to go into the laptop.

I don't believe the Sony Blu-Ray PC is available yet and it will be a long time/if ever before Toshiba offers Blu-Ray because they are anti Blu-Ray being that they are strongly invested in HD-DVD. Dell however is a member of the Blu-ray association so I would expect them to be one of the first (Sony will be first since they invented Blu-Ray) to offer a Blu-Ray computer drive.

Stingrays are yummy. I caught one while vacationing in florida when I was little, I dont remember the flavor/texture well enough to articulate it, but I do remember it was surprisingly good. We also caught and ate a horseshoe crab which wasnt very meaty, interestingly enough horseshoe crabs are considered arachnids instead of crustations. Whacky chinese, if it had parents, we'll eat it.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are competing and incompatible "standards" for the next-generation DVDs--they are high definition DVDs and can store much more data than standard DVDs. They have just come out (HD-DVD) and are about to come out (Blu-Ray), I believe.

Will the be higher resolution (to match hd tv presumably) or just superior capacity media?
For the video versions of the BluRay/HD-DVD, yes the movies will be in high definition in general.

I doubt Dell will be using HD-DVD since they are already a member of the Blu-Ray association. I would expect Blu-Ray products from all member of the Blu-Ray association by years end.

With companies like Sony, Dell, Apple, LG, Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic, HP and others supporting Blu-Ray it is far from dead. Also add to that Blu-Ray has about 90% of the movie studios supporting vs. about 40% behind HD-DVD I would say Blu-Ray will be alive for quite some time.
