e1505 heat/lockups

So, I received my E1505 a few days ago, and I finally got around to doing some gaming. Finished Half Life 2 Episode 1 without any mishap(Other than various driver issues). So I go to play another game-Planetside-and it locks up after about an hour or so of play.

I8kfangui reports the temps as(at least as I remember off the top of my head):
CPU:~48C GPU~66C Memory ~50C HD~50C

Once the gpu gets up there....I can expect various things to stop being rendered, soon to be followed by extra programs quitting, display distortion, and necessary reboot. Pstrip stops recognizing that the gfx card is there until the laptop is rebooted.

It's only locked up on Planetside so far, but I haven't had too much time to play games...yet. I'll pick up a laptop cooler in the near future.

1.8ghz Core Duo
1 gig ram
ATI x1400 256mb HM(No OC).
Ambient room temp of ~75F.

So, what are your experiences with it?

I haven't played planetside on my laptop but I don't think it is a heat issue. Those temperature readings are normal for my laptop during normal use except for the gpu. However, the GPU should not be having any problem at all at 66C. 66C is still relatively low for a laptop dedicated GPU. My GPU easily gets over that while playing games like RoL and BF2 and I haven't had any problems at all with it. I'm thinking its more of a software issue with Planetside.

Yeah it definitely has to be a software issue with Planetside. If other games make the vid card heat up just as much and are stable, why not Planetside? There must be a driver issue or something else that doesn't like our config.

Mmm the thing about half life 2 episode one though was that it would lock up due to conflict with steam and my router. (It checks your internet connection every time you load an area to verify that you actually own the game) so I had to restart HL2 every 30ish minutes.

atm I'm using Omega drivers build 3.8.221, based on catalyst 6.2. I'd upgrade them to 6.5, but there's an issue with them that doesn't properly render solid objects...

Btw, what temp should I expect my hardware to cook at?

I dont know for max temp but i play quake 4 like 2-5 hour a day no problem...on ati driver. i just lift the back of my laptop for better air flow
i just order antec cooling pad to help it.http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=75005

mm.. well thats because the steam system majorly blows. I've used just about all the recent omega drivers and no problems with any of them. If by "cook" you mean overheat, I'd say upwards of 75 to be on the conservative side, but most internal components can operate up to temps of 85C if I'm not mistaken.
