the unofficial official 1,3V geforce 7800go gtx thread

hi guys
you may have noticed this already:

the geforce go 7800gtx in the sager 5720 works at 1.11 volts in full power mode while the dells 7800gtx's seem to receive 1.3 volts of power. so could it be possible that when we flash our bios with a 1.3V bios that we could overclock our cards even further? (with sufficient cooling of course)

kitty i asked you this before so did you try it? anyone else willing to try it?

if you just flash the 3d clocks with the 1.3V and let the 2d volts at 1.1 volts would it be safe to do? (what i mean is does this card start at full power and when the drivers are loaded it clocks down or does it start in 2d mode from the beginning)

i don't wanna be the first to try cause i'm a bit scared. brave ones step forward please :P

no one knows if this card starts up in 2d mode or 3d mode during boot up? i really wanna know this before i flash my card to 1.3V.

Dell and Clevo motherboards are not the same. The Clevo motherboard may not be able to supply 1.3 volts. Those who updated from the 6800 Go to the 6800 Go Ultra had to get new motherboards exactly because the previous boards didn't put out quite enough power.

I'm no electrical engineer and I'm only speculating based on previous experience, but I'd strongly recommend checking with Sager or Clevo before flashing to ensure your mobo can cover the volts.

well impatience drove me .. i tried it. 1.3v freezes and so i wanted to try 1.2v. 1.2v wasn't availaible in nibitor at first but somehow i managed to ake it appear in the list. flashed it, works!

so far so good. the bad thing is, the extra voltage does nothing really. i cannot overclock any further and the dissipated heat isn't higher either. so overvolting the gpu seems rather pointless.

anyone else wanna try it?

i somehw have the impression that my gpu is still running at 1.11v ,,, so is there another program like nibitor? another bios tool for nvidia cards..

thanks

Here is my 2 cents. The board it self aka the video card pbc has its voltage regulators etc... with certain voltage values it can handle. Here comes the problem. If the max voltage is 1.1 then no matter what voltage you flash in the bios, the the card can not use more than 1.1 volts then its just not gonna happen. If it is comfirmed the Dell uses 1.3 and sager uses 1.1 then I would think that its a different pbc with different voltage values.

hmmm ... could be... all i know is my current bios shows 1.2 volts. dunno if it still just uses 1.11V... after all it crshed at 1.3v so it seems that it does use the flashed voltage. (doesn't stay at 1.11v as you suggested)
