To all Dell TrueMobile 300 Bluetooth owners.
When Dell originally published version A05 of the bluetooth driver for the TM300 it had a hidden firmware update included in it. Dell soon removed it and replaced version A05 with the "Stack only" version of A05.
The problem was that users would install the BT driver without realizing that a firmware update was also running in the background - and would click on OK to reboot the notebook after the driver installation completed. Since the firmware update didn't finish before the reboot - it requires 20 to 40 minutes - the TM300's firmware became permanently damaged.
The solution:
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE SEQUENCE LISTED WILL CAUSE THE TM300 TO BE PERMANTLY DAMAGED AND UNUSEABLE.
1. After the BT driver installation completes, do nothing, DO NOT CLICK on any message box buttons. You can drag the message box to the side - so that you can watch the firmware update.
2. Wait 20 to 40 minutes for the firmware update to complete. It updates very, very slowly. Be patient.
3. Finish the firmware update.
4. Finish the BT driver installation and let it reboot the notebook.
You're finished.
If you need to reinstall the bluetooth driver in the future, you can install the "Stack Only" version from Dell's download page or reinstall the full version - just be aware that it will flash the firmware again.
