can my Thinkpad think beyond 512

Just landed a Thinkpad A20M 700mhz/512/12 with docking station on the cheap. The system is maxed out at 512mb, I'm curious though, will windows recognize anything above 512. Is there a hardware limitation, and if so can it be usurped?

also, is the HDD a standard 2.5"? anything special to swap it out?

thanks

the memory i am not sure even that it shuoldnt be a problem to switch to sodimm with more than 512 (change both to avoid speed issues)

2.5 is the standard for lappie hd`s as long as you miror the hd you shuold be good.

This is simply just BAD advice.

Be extremely careful when imaging IBM hard drives. If it hasn't been deleted, all IBM drives contain a hidden restore partition that does not always get along w/ cloning software (something to do with undocumented changes to the Master Boot Record). If you DO clone the drive, the BEST way to do it is to boot from the recovery media CD (either Acronic True Image or Norton Ghost) and clone the drive from within those programs.

why do i need to clone the drive at all?

The A22m likely is using the 440BX chipset. you're limited to 256mb DIMMs. 512mb is your limit. Only the P3 systems using the 830m chipset can handle 512mb DIMMs. The X30, and A30 had these...I don't know if the T23 did or not.

FWIW, the T23 can take the 512mb sticks as well.

ok, TF. I wasn't sure if they changed the chipset with the T23 from 440BX (T20-T22) to the 830m. I figured they would have...but I've never used one.
