The TM8204 is now 1999.xx from newegg. They are running $100 instant savings. Obviously a fine choice in your retailer.

Just a heads up

The price has been there or lower for a while now. ZipZoomFly had the 8204 for $1965 with no tax or shipping at least ten days ago.

Nextag reckons the 8204WLMi hit $1900 a month ago:

PriceScan.com agrees:

(Each horizontal tick mark is one week, red is the highest pricing, blue is average, green is the lowest pricing.)

Ditto StreetPrices.com:

Some like shopping at the egg though. indication. that monday could bring good things from some other retailers in "retail"iation

Yeah, I have to admit I like newegg myself - but since they set up a depot in Tennessee, I have to pay sales tax with them, which kills the deal on most products. Heck, it'd add almost $200 to the price of the laptop for me. That's more than enough to more than cover the three year warranty with accidental damage cover!

ZipZoomFly, PCNation and MWave all have fairly good reputations as well - and none of them charge tax for me. They're $1965, $1966 and $1977 respectively. (MWave does charge shipping, but even *with* shipping they're still cheaper than NewEgg's base price before tax.

Hi,
I love newegg as well, but again, the sales tax kills it for me. I ordered mine mid MAy from PCNAtion @ $1965 + a $19 warehouse handling fee(*) + free shipping = $1984.xx Altogether cheaper than the egg's current price which is the lowest it's ever been. The order arrived in 3 business days.

* for those of us in CA/US, there is a warehouse in CA for PCNation, which means there would be a sales tax. To get around that, ask your PCNAtion rep to ship the item from CA to them in ILlinois, and then from Illinois back to you in CA at the cost of $19 instead of paying $152 for CA sales tax.

Other lower prices were found @ circa $1820 by a retailer in NY albeit with crappy customer service reviews. These prices are from mid May.

Hmm - either CA sales tax law is different to any other I've heard of, or somebody's playing fast and loose and will get burned when they get found out. Every sales tax I've ever seen, AFAIK, doesn't apply only if your item ships from a warehouse in your state - all that is required is the company to *own* a warehouse / office / whatever in your state.

The physical presence is what determines taxability, in other words.

If I'm wrong here, somebody please cite a reference!

Something I have never seen anyone mention is that you can get the TM8204 from none other than S.E.A.R.S

and remember what it says on the door.....

Satisfaction Guaranteed or your Money Back....It doesnt say within 15-30 days.

Of course you pay a premium for shopping at Sears to the tune of almost $600 dollars. I know some sears will price match right to the internet, however I dont think this model is available in stores.

Just funny that SEARS has our TM8204

Business that have presence in your home state are required to charge sales tax unless you are in a no sales tax state or are exempt by status.

Examples - Dell, Those little carts in the malls are what get you

aPPLE - The apple retail stores

Staples - Good luck there

Buy.com - Hit or miss, lots of warehouses *but mostly ingram micro is where there good stuff comes from*

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Which suggests to me that if PC Nation get caught not charging sales tax, their customers are quite likely to get invoices in the mail to make up the difference.

Prices are falling or the acer is on promo from retailers this weekend

Compusa 1999.99 after instant savings
Amazon 1999.99 from various resellers,
Walmart 1999.99 down from last week
Overstock *Yes Overstock* New in box, 5% off makes it like 2046.xx
*Overstock might be one to watch, they just got it back in stock. perhaps they have newer builds. It would be nice if overstock would adjust to 1999.99 with a 10% coupon. This week its only 5% on laptops though.

This is fun sitting back and wait.

Why on *earth* would somebody choose to buy from Overstock.com even if they adjusted their pricing, when it is available cheaper from reputable dealers elsewhere?

I just dont wanna part with hard earned money. I want cheap and newer built

powersellersnyc is sitting at 1799.99 now. Any takers???

I just thinks its good that the prices are dropping a little from the big box companies such as walmart and compusa.

Maybe the word "overstock" in their name is misleading you. Even if they dropped their price to $1999, they'd *still* be $50 more than other more reputable retailers (I've *not* heard good things about Overstock.com on high-ticket items) - so not cheap. They'd also be getting the exact same stock from the exact same places as everybody else, so no newer built either.

I have bought from overstock, both refurbs and new. This item did not say refurbed that I saw. What I was hoping is that overstock will drop to 1999.99 with a 10% coupons. Some 1799.xx + 2 dollar shipping could be welcomed from such a company. I imagine we all have preferences. Just dropping lines when I see something that is interesting.

Ah, you mean $1999 *before* a 10% coupon.

I highly doubt it unless they're selling refurbs, because they'd almost certainly be losing money on every sale at $1799. I wouldn't touch a refurb laptop of this cost with a hundred foot pole. If you offered it to me for $1200 tops I *might* considred it, but I'd probably want more than the usual refurb 90 day warranty.

I have on fairly good authority that the 8204s cost via ingram micro etc to small business e-tailers is right around $189x. +/-

Heres to hoping for the best
Sounds about right. Yep, Acer's probably making a *fair* amount on these, but the retailers are making peanuts.

Acer has just dropped the published prices for several of its notebooks in Canada - including a couple of Core Duo machines. Expected street pricing for the machines fell as follows:

TravelMate 8204WLMi - CA$2,499 (US$2,250) to CA$2,399 (US$2,160)...

TravelMate 4674WLMi -CA$1,999 (US$1,800) to CA$1,899 (US$1,710)
TravelMate 4672WLMi-120 - CA$1,799 (US$1,620) to CA$1,699 (US$1,530)
TravelMate 4672WLMi - CA$1,599 (US$1,440) to CA$1,499 (US$1,350)

Aspire 1641ZWLMi - replaced in list by 1644ZWLMi, no spec difference listed, but price falls from CA$1,499 (US$1,350) to CA$1,399 (US$1,260)

TravelMate 4072WLCi - CA$999 (US$899) to CA$949 (US$850)

TravelMate 3012WTMI - CA$1,599 (US$1,440) to CA$1,499 (US$1,350)

TM8204WLMI Status $$ - Is 1.6 G's a reality

Your not far off. Ive received notification that it is getting ready to hit $1699.99-1599.99, however they are not available to the merchant due to inventory issues. Could this be a sign of a REV2 (Merom Equiped) or just a price drop.

Either way, I got mine now. and at a very satisfying price from a seller here. Couldnt have asked for more sound notebook. None of the plagued issues that people rant about here.
