acer bios repair

If all else fails you carefully cut away the bios chip with a scalpel cutting each pin in turn, it then becomes easy to remove the old bios chip connecter pins with a small iron.. All you would have to do is carefully solder a plcc socket in place. dont rush and keep iron clean. Its easier if you remove the thin back center panel from the socket. Once this is done you can program and fit a new chip and all should be well. I May have blank chips for this laptop, and can also program the chips.

The problem with most laptops is finding a workable BIOS code.

Have restored desktop boards this way with good results.

Thanks for suggestion dude, but I dont fancy open heart surgery on my laptop. I have sent it off to be repaired and I will post what they are quoting to get it repaired. I just can't understand why I get 3 beeps.....

If the bios is shite, would that throw all the beeps out of order? Three beeps IS a display adapter problem - but I only had these 3 beeps after I flashed the bios...

You wont get service manuel from acer unless someone gives it to you from the internal network.. best bet maybe is buy a new mainboard from a reseller.

You can get a full manual from this guy on ebay for £2.00.
It is instantly sent to you when you pay via PayPal.
Here's his link:

I would try swaping the memory around and swaping the original memory to different banks and make sure it seated in correctly, if that fails may have to just buy new MB because your not getting a service manuel unless you got a buddy on the inside of Acer.

You can buy the service manuals off of the internet for £2, but its ok I don't need one now. The laptop has been sent in for repair, just awaiting the quote now :-)

Have now got my laptop back from ACER who replaced my mainboard as the bios update obviously fried it.

Good news though, as I stated to the service operator on the phone that I had purchased my Laptop from Comet within the last 2 years he very kindly put it down on there computer that is was still under warranty. If you purchase your laptop from Comet, you automatically get a 2 year RTB warranty.

Therefor, for this reason they have not charged me a penny to fix it!! I am quitew lucky I must admit, but I believe this may work for anyone if you get the right operator on the phone. They didn't ask for any proof of purchase, they just took all of my details and sent a courier to pick my laptop up within 3 days. Within a fairly short time it was back here all done and working!!

Hope this may help others.........

Here's the solution. I copied the answer because my english is bad, but I want to help other people with my same problem... and IT WORKS!!!!! I also screwed up with the 1.12 Bios version for the Acer Travelmate 2200. But, fortunately everything works again. With a lot of googling and going to this site, i finally got the solution. What you've got to do: 1) Get a USB floppy drive. (you get them for little money on second hand auction shops and a clean floppy.) On another pc: 2) Download the v1.07 version from the Acer ftp site.
Code:
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/travelmate_2200/bios/TM2200/Bios%201.07.zip
3) Download crisdisk.zip
Code:
http://www.rechner.org/data/B1800_crisis_recovery_disk.zip
4) unzip this file on c: 5) rename the bios v1.07 file to BIOS.WPH 6) put this file in the crisdisk project folder 7) Use crisdisk tool to create a bootable diskette and a bootable floppy with the files phlash.exe, minidos.sys and (the 1.07 bios file) bios.wph will be created for you 8)Put this floppy in the floppy drive connected to your Acer. 9) Make sure your travelmate has no battery, put in the AC-plug and hold the buttons 'Fn' and 'B'. 10) Push the power button, with the two other buttons still down. 11) If the power led start, release the 'Fn'and 'B' button. 12) If you're lucky, you'll hear lots of beeps.... Your computer will reset itself and start in Windows!! If the booting doesn't succeed, try a different timing on releasing the 'Fn' and 'B' button. Add me in the messenger arturoberendsen@hotmail.com if you can't. I speak spanish, portuguese and english...

I have the same problem with an Acer Travelmat 4600. If flashed it in windows with the bios for a ddr II model. The flash went fine. After the flash the screen just went blank ! The notebook logs fine in windows ( welcome sound from windows). All the screen remains blank, even with an external vga screen. I checked the ram in the notebook and it's ddr 400 and not ddr II, so the wrong bios was flashed ! I tried to fix this with creating a bootable CD. I don't have an USB floppy drive. I tried it about 20 times with different bios I found on the website from acer. It's hard to know to flash it when you have no screen at all. It keeps giving me a low long beep followed with 2 short high pitched beeps. As far as I understand that either means there is a vga problem er the bios isn't compatible with my notebook. I am going to try further to create a bootable CD with the help of the crisisdisk. Does anyone have had a chance to revive a wrongly flash notebook that has no screen output with a bootable CD ? I would like to fix this notebook as soon as possible and I would like to fix it before I get my hands on a USB floppy drive. If I find a solution with a bootable CD I will post this here. I have already google'd alot but this forum seems to be the nearest to a solution for my problem.

I read that it's imposible to do a BOOTABLE RECOVERY CD... all dead BIOS only recognices the Floppy Drive (a:\).

Here's some info about:

Sorry for my English again... :-S
