E1705 wont recognize 667 mhz Memory

I just received an E1705 with 512 mb of Crap Ram which I replaced with some Patriot Ram ordered from New Egg. 2 x 1GB 667 Sticks. I installed the Ram and rebooted. After telling me the amount of Ram has changed I went into the BIOS and under Memory Info it does show me Dual Channel 2048 but only 533 mhz Ram speed instead of 667. Is there a problem with the E1705 Motherboards failing to recognize the higher speed Ram? Or is there something I need to do for the Ram to be recognized as 667mhz?

I tried just one module in the different slots and then the other in the different slots. Then I ran Memtest 86+ for 3 hours and it came up without any errors in the memory. Also tested the memory via DR Hardware to make sure it was 667 memory. All checked out but the Dell board will not recognize it as the higher speed ram.

Is it a bad motherboard or is the Patriot Ram not compatible with DELL.

I guess I can return the Ram to New Egg for an exchange for some other Ram and see what happens.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you!

PS: Yup, I still hate the WUXGA display it came with . Very Grainy and washed out. Not what you would expect from a Top of the line display.

All things point to Patritot memory not being compatible with the Dell systems. I have tested Crucial, Samsung and Patriot and all register at 667 in BIOS except the Patriot. Also there are a few posts indicating the same results.

PS. Call Dell and exchange that display because all of my WUXGA truelifes look awesome.

I just bought some Mushkin from Fry's and it does registeras 667 mhz ram. So it is the Patriot Memory. Thanks for the input.

I will call Dell tomorrow and have them switch the Display. It most definitely isn't anything close to spectacular.

Quick question. Which display do you have? LG or Samsung? Do you have a part number?
Just want to ask for the right thing when I call Dell tomorrow.

I don't think it is just a selected few stick, I believe it is the Patriot Memory being not quite compatible with the DELL Motherboards and therefore the speed is being downgraded to 533. I would order some other memory instead of Patriot. Why take a gamble of it working or not working. I had 2 sticks and neither one of them were recognized to run at 667mhz.
When I put in the Mushkin it was recognized right away and it works flawlessly. And from people that are saying there hardly isn't any difference in noticable speed from 533 and 667 they are dead wrong. I did an Aquamark 3 benchmark with the Patriot memory running at 533 and then with the Mushkin at 667 and with the Patriot ram I got a score of 76544 and after switching to the Mushkin running at 667 the score went to 79766.
Okay it's not the greatest Benchmark for ram but it shows that the faster Ram did make a difference in the overall score.

Anyway, if I were you I would go with a different Ram than Patriot for your Dell Laptop. JMHO.

I have an Samsung in my M90 and a LG Philips in the 1705. I don't know the part numbers but all indications here on the forum is that Dell can not guarantee a specific panel, they will send what ever they have in stock.

I feel bad for the guy because there are so many previous posts in the forums on the same exact Patriot memory being very shitty ram when it comes to compatibility. I have already posted a million times, but will rehash it.

The problem with the patriot ram is the SPD chip not being fully compatible with all chipsets. The bios in the E1705, I9300 and many other similar laptops cannot properly detect the timings and fall back to the lowest timings possible. It will still run fine, but not at 667. They are known for having similar issue with desktop memory as well.

I am using cheap ram in my rig (2X1GB G.Skill 667Mhz) and it is fully compatible and working fine, most known brands, Muskin, OCZ, Crucial, Corsair etc also work fine as they should. BUT PATRIOT SUXORZ and someone needs to start a new post like DO NOT BUY PATRIOT RAM and sticky it. =)

Congrats...

My Patriot has run 667 with no issues from day 1, but I have read of others with issues and I think that there was some batches with bad or cheap SSD chips on them that did not play well with our Dell's. They must have corrected that.

its a crapshoot with that company.
