i recently purchased and used alienware system from a wholeseller with no operating system or any installation disks. all the hardware is there and a functional from what i can tell............i am having hella problems finding drivers for this computer. i tried all the drivers in the m7700 thread and the only one that has worked is the ethernet card driver. but i cant find drivers for the video, sound, base system controller, usb controller or modem.

not sure what model area51 it is but it is 3.2ghz 1gb ram, 60gb hd, dvd rom and it is green.

can anyone help?

Can you post a picture? If it's green, it's probably and A51m 5500 (766). Unfortunately if that's the case, that model has been discontinued and parts are no longer available.

Does it look like this?

I hope everything works... If the motherboard or video module aren't working right you won't be able to replace them easily...

Do you know what video module you have in there? It's either an Nvidia 5600go, 5700go, or ATi 9600 or 9700...

Click on my name in the block on the left, and send me a private message with an email address, and I'll see if I can't download the drivers and email them to you.

With the newer hardware and the volume Alienware sells, it's just made the laptops too expensive. Alienware has done marketing studies, and people aren't usually willing to pay and additional $400 for custom paint colors.

They're constantly looking at this option though, so it may come back in the future.

t3project, don't try the drivers in the m5500 folder, those are the drivers for the new 5500. You have the older 5500 (766) so use the drivers from the 766 folder.

Those should work. I thought the ftp address was secure now. They are the latest available drivers.

You will have to figure out what video module you have in order to get the vid drivers to work.

Good luck, and let us know if it works.

tou can get the drivers from uniwill, it's the N766 model.
Here's a link for you. For the video card try http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ or something like.
Good luck.
