Curser With Mind of Its' Own

Thread Starter
This 8890 is my first laptop computer. I find that when I am typing text the curser seems to have a mind of its' own and jumps around all over the place and I find myself typing in places I have no intent to type. Then I either have to delete part of what I have typed, or move it to the correct place in the text. I have never had this problem with Windows XP, or Word, on other computers. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening or any suggestions as to how I can fix this situation? This is not good and very counter-productive!

It might be that you have your palms on the touchpad as you type, sometimes taht can move the cursor. Under the settings in the touchpad driver, you can turn on a no palms setting which works quite well for me.

it could also be your thumbs touching the touchpad.

Today mine wouldn't move where i wanted it to move. I'd slide it over to where i wanted, let go of the touchpad, and it'd jump back in place.
Rebooted nad it fixed it...

Basically got the answers there- either your hands are hitting the touchpad (I do that still and it drives me NUTS) or it's time for a rebootski.

Hope one o' those is the fix

Dells have a problem that might be happening here, too. Either the keyboard or the touchpad might be going bad. Not sure why the keyboard sometimes fixes it, but it does on the Dells.

Dells often have both a nipple and a touchpad.
If both are activated it can result in the cursor having a mind of its own.

Well, I it happened again, so I did an exorcism on it.

That fixed it up
