PCMCIA? Express Card?

Thread Starter
I am considering buying an E1505 but have learned that it does not have a PCMCIA slot. Instead it has an "Express Card" slot. What exactly is this?
I have a PCMCIA device (CF memory card reader) that I am currently using in my present laptop. Will I not be able to use this in the Dell E1505?

Related to this, it appears that the built in (5 in 1 ) memory card reader does not accept CF cards. Is there no way I can get an internal CF card reader with this laptop?

Thanks for you assistance.

The express card slot is supposed to be the step from pcmcia card slots. Dell just rolled it out WAY too early. your old pcmcia devices will not work with it.

The express card slot is the new substitute of the PCMCIA. It runs at faster speeds, and no, you won't be able to use your memory card reader in it.

Your going to have to opt for a USB reader since its extremely unlikely you'll ever see a CF card reader thats express based.
