[m1710] Display don´t turn off when closing the lid

Thread Starter
hello folks,

myself has a litte issue here with his new m1710:

when you close the lid of your notebook, normally the display turns off (energy savings, whatever^^).

heres the problem: when i close the lid of my m1710, the display stays on :-/

i called dell support, even a technican...result: must be a software-problem o.O

now, does anyone know software which is able to control the behaviour of the display?

thx4help
tvr

oh btw: comparing the sound off my old m170 and the new m1710, i think the new sounds a litte amphoric ?!
any comments about that ?

Funny thing is, I have the same exat issue...On my XPS2 my display turns off just fine when I close the lid, but not on this one :/ ...In order to rule out that it is software we need somone that has "Dell installation" OS that they have not messed with yet & verify whether the issues applies there as well. If it does then we know it is a Dell issue, not somthing that we have done while installing new drivers...etc

Obviously there is a switch in the diplay assembly since you can set your system to enter standby/hibernate once you close the lid...

Dell Quick Set has a power set up wizard for when you close the lid.

Same problem here, has not bothered me yet but often If I'm copying or backing up at a client location I close the lid to conserver battery. Given I get way more battery life with this than I did my HP, it still would be nice to get those extra half hour or hour that I would from the screen turning off

THat's not going to cause you to lose anything, it's just a low power mode to conserve battery power. If ANYONE can try this on a stock setup (Dell Bloatware and all) and confirm if the screen turns off when the lid is closed it would be appreciated ...The screen only seems to consume about 6-7 watts on average on my system so it's pretty efficient, probably would save about 25 minutes of battery power.

Stand by cuts off internet/wireless and suspends programs from running. That might be very annoying for those who want to have them runnning while the lid is closed.... like downloading stuffs overnight/playing music.

I had the same problem and it got fixed itself. I have absolutely no idea how

I have a gut feeling that this may have to do with the A01 bios update.

Just a gut feeling, though.
No resolution.

Only other thing i could say to do is change how long it takes your lcd to turn off when you arent using it.

I have A00 so that's not it

I have the same problem. If I wasn't so darn lazy, I would do some experimenting. In all honesty, I think it has something to do with the video card drivers. Who GPU drivers are you guys using?

Here, I've got the laptopvideo2go 91.28 drivers.

If the results of this poll show that it could be a driver issue; I'll download drivercleaner, reboot into safe mode as many times as I have to to figure out what drivers it works with and what drivers it doesn't. Afterall, i can always use my other system so I don't have to mess up this one.

i dun dink the lcd shuts off when you close the lid like other laptops do, its just a design flaw

Mine turns off.I have mine set to do nothing I have the 01 bios and i done a clean instal of my os. But with the Dell drivers when I do close the lid when I reopen it the icons are displaced. I have expeirmented and the icon issue is drivers. Unfortunatly I instaled the newly released Dell drivers and the same it displaces the icons. has anyone with the light staying on tried to reinstal the Dell quickset?
