You obviously have the stock Dell drivers installed.

Guys, I've used probably 15-20 drivers; and the only ones I can get to work are the last two Dell stock drivers. I don't know, it seems like that's the only option.

I have to believe they could fix this in one of the mobile driver modding communities...

Hey all. Just wondering if anyone can help me.
I just got a Inspiron 8400 laptop with a go 7800 graphics card in it. This card has subsequently been upgraded in my laptop by Dell to a go 7900gs. Now, on my old 7800, things worked fine. However now, when I run a game, if I alt tab out to an internet explorer window for example, then scroll up and down the page, the screen graphics will go all lines and shaking for a second before settling down to a steady picture... If I exit the game, it stops. If I dont run any game, it doesn't appear...
Anyone have any idea what's going on? I've tried various different drivers and used Drivercleaner pro between changes, there is no BIOS update, and everything else is working fine. My refresh rate on my laptop is 60Hz, and never caused a problem with my old card... I'm lost.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Your post should be in a new thread. This thread is about M1710's that don't turn off when you close the lid. You might get more help if you start a new thread.

Ok guys I have traced down the functionality and it is not good news. The support for LidBehavior exists in nvcpl.dll. This is a versioned file so you cannot use another driver version.

The only way to get this to work is for Tony to mod driver packs that have the ability to turn off the lid. This is not something we will be able to hack on normal nvidia driver releases because they are designed for desktops.

Yes, that is the core problem right there. What both the Xtreme G drivers and the laptopvideo2go drivers are is modded desktop drivers. So, in order for us to have the LCDs turn off, somebody has to take the Dell drivers and mod them, or at least add the support for the LidBehavior somehow.

So, what's the conclusion as to why, when using the Dell drivers and closing the lid, that the icons are all rearranged when you reopen it? That doesn't happen when using the modded drivers.

I'd be happy if someone could fix the Dell drivers so they don't trash my icon layout!

The reason that happens is because when you close the lid with the Dell drivers, it switches the screen output to the exteral outputs. In doing so, your screen resolution is changed, causing the icons to be rearranged. I'm not sure which I prefer--icons being rearranged or the screen not turning off.

Just wondering if anyone has come forward with any 3rd party drivers yet that would fix this issue?

Does it turn off the LCD when youre using dual view? Does it affect any of the settings?

I have an M170 with the 7800GTX and with 91.33 drivers installed the LCD does go out when I close the lid. I do like the old control panel more though.

Well I still have the problem, but what I do now is just set in my energy settings that my screen has to shut itself off when my laptop isn't used for 5 minutes. Then when I close the lid, it doesn't stay on for a long time. Works good with me.. (I use the most recent drivers from nVidia btw).

Where did you get the 91.33 drivers from? laptopvideo2go?

Please consider this solution (if you haven't already). Seems to work with Dell drivers. Since the registry value described appears to also control screen poweroff policy, playing with it may help with 91.33 drivers as well.
