Just got it from best buy on june 5 o6 paid 1750 cdn +tax
specs
1.66 duo , 1 gig of ram and the nvidia 7400 go ,160 gig hd (80x2) 17 inch ,dvd burner

First i want to say i took back a Toshiba a100 that i had for a week and got this one due to the Toshiba,s screen being very dull and it locked up on me twice in the first couple of hours of using it.

Im very happy that i got this unit its worlds better then the Toshiba the screen is deadly and very very bright!!!!

Unit is very fast load times are great i have yet to play any games on it yet but have upgraded the drivers for the 7400 from the hp home page
3dmark05 2102 not to bad of a score (about the same as the toshiba)
i give this job a big thumbs up

I looked at alot of laptops and feel for the money this is one of the best deals out there!

One thing that bugs me is what does the vid card have memory wise?? it says 256 on the box then 128 on the unit then 512 in the system info a bit strange for sure.
Hope this helps yall out a bit
Jeff

I got the same one but it was a lot cheaper at Future Shop and the keyboard is terrible, got a replacement unit and the keyboard is still terrible, have you done much typing on it? There's a problem with it not registering all the keystrokes.

Such a nice computer otherwise.

I've had the same video question/issue since I bought my dv8000t back in April and had asked the question in the forums here: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=149175

I recently updated the BIOS to the newest F.13A (released late May), replacing F.09A from April. Now my benchmarking/diagnostic utilities (PCWizard and DxDiag) show 256MB video memory - down from 512- but now show 500MB texture memory - up from 369MB. The reported memory frequency and throughput still seem wrong, though, in my diagnostics. Video benchmarks have been unaffected, though, since I'm still getting about 2000 in 3DMark05.
Also, there's still no option in the BIOS to turn of sharing, which makes me wonder what we've actually got under the hood.

7400

weird forsure even on nvidias website there are no drivers for this card , thats kinda weird as well, speed wise our 3dmark05 tests are on par with the toshiba a100 with the ati x1600 card i had for a week so im not worried about that.
I think its a 256 but i cant explain why its not eating up my system memory with the other 256
Ps im too much of a woosie too flash the bios lol so im just going to leave it

Drtoronto,

I don't know what 1750cdn works out to be in real money... but if you can and if you're within your "return" period... I'd return that unit ASAP and buy a dv8000t thru www.costco.com.... You can CTO (Custom to Order) the unit thru them... They have good pricing and a 6 month no hassle return policy.

http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigurator.aspx?Prodid=10029570&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&model=EX177AV

FYI: Current dv8000t's are shipping with the NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 with 256MB discrete video memory... which is 128-bit, vs the 64-bit 7400 that uses "shared" memory....

The 7600 is a LOT faster GPU.

Here's a good review of a dv8000t with the 7400, since the dv8000t is shipping with the 7600 series GPU, insert the higher 3Dmarks of the 7600:

Soooo, does that mean the info I provided was helpful to you in making that decsion?

Your last post inferred that you were happy with the 7400 GPU: "3dmark05 tests are on par with the toshiba a100 with the ati x1600 card i had for a week so im not worried about that. "

Not that is matters since I'm not getting paid here, but it would be nice to know that I'm not totally wasting my time here.

yea it helped me out i figured that it was a ok speed but now understand that both those units really have poor video cards i guess as well im spolied because my desktop is a dell xps 3.4ht with 2 gigs of corsair ram and a msi 7900gtx extreme vid card and knocks out in the 8000 s, i know its not fair comparing a laptop to a desktop but i think now my views have changed of the duo 1.66 early run lapers
thanxs again

It's not the CPU, it's the weak GPU's that's hurting these units.

Really wish people would read the below link, the more people that refuse crappy video cards (The GPU) the better for all concerned (I.E. if people were informed of what to "look" for, sales of the unit of the units with weak video cards would drop, sales of units with good video cards increasing, which would reduce cost, make the high end units now the norm.
