Guild Wars on a MacBook

Well,

Managed to install Boot Camp and XP on my MacBook. Then loaded up Guild Wars. It plays surprisingly well...between 25-35 FPS at medium settings (and highest resolution). Played a while around Seeker's Passage where there are lots of enemies...no problem at all. And, this is with the 1.83GHz CPU and only 512MB of RAM (2 GB on order).

Would I recommend a MacBook for someone who needed it as their main gaming machine? No - but obviously it can be used to game if you want to. I'll be loading it up with some older games that I've never played (Morrowind, Deus Ex, and a number of others).

I dono how you pulled off installing XP. I tried following all the directions that the boot camp assistant told me to do and it still would not work. I have to take my macbook back to apple because it won't even boot up. I'm so pissed right now.

It is tricky. I had to try two different XP (with SP 2) discs, and had to try the installs several times. The first time it would not read the Mac Drivers.

I hosed it as well the first time. Only thing I could do was reinstall the OS X (did a complete erase and install). To do this you put the Install Disc in, hold C while booting and you should go to the install options. If you have the XP disc stuck in the drive, try holding down the track pad button when you turn it on to get it to eject automatically.

This is why Apple says it is a Beta release...it's tricky, and the slot loading drive is fussy about reading the XP disc as well. Some people reported better luck making a copy/image of the disk first.

Good luck...

Edit - also, make sure you select "C" for the partition to load your XP onto.

Yea I went and they took care of that for me. I do not think I'll be messing XP on there for a while. I'm gonna wait till they update bott camp a little bit more. Thanks for the advice shazza.

I wish Microsoft would follow suit with their own version.

There was no firmware indicated for the MacBook (and I couldn't find one searching through the Downloads section) - I know there is one for the MacBook Pro.

Shazza I realized what my problem was with installing XP. I used an upgrade CD. So I wantd to know if anyone knew how to delete the XP partition when your in MAC OS X because its occupying 5 gigs of space I'm not using.
Thanks in advance.

while i haven't looked into it, i'm wondering if there's any way to slipstream an upgrade CD to a regular install? then again if u pick up an OEM install u can pick XP SP2 up for pretty cheap.

Guild Wars runs great on my MacBook too.

lol, I can't remember the last time I logged into Windows under bootcamp. I've been having more fun playing with OSX than GW. Now that I have 1.25gigs of RAM GW should run even better! Time to test it out.
