June 5, 2006 - NVIDIA officially released their newest and highest-end GPU today, the GeForce 7950 GX2. The new graphics card is notable for two reasons. The first is the fact that it is the first SKU to incorporate two separate GPU and memory systems into a single PCI-E card, allowing simple SLI-style power and functionality. The second is the fact that it is the first graphics card to offer full HDCP-copy-protection compatibility.

I read somewhere that Nvidia builds the mobile component first and then eventually they move it to the desktop size. So When do you think this sucker will come out for our notebooks?

if it does happen then don't expect it to be in an 8 pound lappy, more like a 13-16 pound one. The reason why i say that is because the 7950 (basicly two sli'd 7900 (between a gs and gtx) running off one pci-e slot) gets EXTREMELY HOT in DESKTOP systems I.E 90C. imagine how hot that would get in a lappy. Also the thing you said about nvidia builds the moblie component first, this is basicly just two sli'd (two 7900 cores) running together. Also it doesn't have as good performance as a true sli configuration so i wouldn't really expect it to be that useful in a lappy.

This article has me a bit concerned on just what a mobile G80 will be capable of.
