GeForce Go 6800 Ultra vs Mobility X1400

Just something that I observed:

Played Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on XPS Gen 2 with 2Ghz Dothan (Pentium M) and GeForce Go 6800 Ultra with default settings (but bumped resolution to native WUXGA -- 1920x?)

Played Splinter Cell CT on E1505 with 2GHz Core Duo and ATI X1400 with default settings (but bumped resolution to 1400x?)

Both ran fine.

On the E1505, I attempted to bump it up to 1600x? (WSXGA+), but it CHOKED.

Darn. I thought X1400 would be faster than GF Go 6800 Ultra. Oh well. I wanted a 15" to replace my 17" XPS Gen 2 anyway for portability and battery reasons (4-6 hours vs a mere 1.5 hours with XPS!)

X1400 is pretty much the very basic video card designed for a combination of OK performance and power saving. The 6800 Ultra is (even though a generation older) the top of the line "enthusiast" card. It's kind of like comparing a new Honda Civic to a slightly older model Porsche. That Porsche is going to dust any Honda Civic....as least for a while.

Yeah remember that at one time the 6800 Ultra was top of the line and the x1400 never was. Not to mention even a mobile 9700 would beat the x1400.

nope not 9700 but 9800 will beat it.

the 6800 Ultra is comparable to the 7900GS keep THAT in mind.

Well, if over-clocked, the 7900GS will beat the 6800 Ultra, but, at standard clocks, they are similar. The 7900GTX is NVIDIA's current best. The 7900GS Is actually a little worse even than the 7800GTX (at standard clocks, but the 7900GS over-clocks to be the same as the 7800GTX, if not a little better).
