A Two Laptop Family? - a Ferrari 4005 (the "MACHINE") and F-1000

I'm dreaming...

It's been almost a year since FedEx backed up to my door and dropped off my MACHINE - a Ferrari 4005! Do you remember that posting/review? Prior to that, I had been laying on my back for six months trying to recover from a back fusion. Pounding away on a Sony F-560 which I loved but was slowing down.

Well, the Ferrari 4005 was a pleasure and I spent another six months pounding away on it. I did have a regulator failure that put a line across my LCD but it was quickly repaired by Acer. No hastles whatsoever.

So while my originally posted review of the Ferrari 4005 sticks as written, my back falls apart. The bone used for the fusion disappears. A non-union. My wife wanted to send me to Acer Service claiming that I was a Lemon. So, six months ago they (the doctors) installed two titanium rods and dozens of stainless steel screws in my back. Eight levels of fusion. So now I am an exotic metal man - carbon, titanium and stainless steel.

Now post this surgery, I am still mostly flat on my back trying to recover. The MACHINE is running smootly although I have had some second thoughts re: that Office 2007 beta 2 installation I did. That might have to go, or at least the Outlook component. But I am now having new dreams. Dreams of recovering and walking along carrying a nice light Ferrari 1000.

What would you do? "Live" with a single core 4005 for use in the house and travel with a dual core 1000, or replace the 4005 with a 5000? (Oh, please have a full size keyboard. I have big paws. And please keep the delete key above the Home key not three keys in like a Dell).

Is this such an unreasonable dream or is it the pain and the associated meds? I need a second opinion.

And here's a kicker. I just placed an order on Friday for a Dell D620 from Florida State U computer store for my daughter. 4 year warranty, 4 year ADL, loaners, Office PRO, 256 video card, 1gb ram (1 stick - getting ready for Vista?), 100gb HD, dual 1.83GHz, DVD burner, WXGA+, 4 year subscription to McAfee, 25 ft. ethernet cable, notebook lock, notebook bag. Even an iPod 1 GB shuffle. I am so conflicted. Now do you understand?

Thanks.

I am looking at getting a Ferrari 5000 later in the year adn giving the 4005 to my wife. But I would like to get it with Vista and a HD-DVD so i might wait until 2007.

By then I will see what else is around to 'beat' the ferrari 5000.

Oh, and I still love the 4005 ..nothing has gone wrong with it and it is still running like a dream.
