Dell upgraded me, but I don't know if I should be happy.

After month of declining health on my 9300, I decided to activate my complete care and request a replacement.

I found out today that they will be upgrading me to an M170, but the shipment date and the build date are the same which makes me think it is a refurb.

I am leaning towards the side of just taking my upgrade and being happy, but I am a little upset that they are sending me a refurb system.

People with experience in this matter, is there any recourse for me or should I just be happy with my upgrade?

Maybe it was just a unit that was cancelled after it was produced? Ya might as well just send an email and ask if it's a refurb or not.

Worst case scenario, it craters and you get a new one.

My 9300 was replaced with a refurbished M170. I couldn't be happier.

128 ATI X300 = 256 7800 GTX

XGA = UXGA

512Mb = 1Gb

It's an upgrade. Their policies state they replace with new or refurbished parts. You getting a better system. Period.

I wouldn't get pissed unless you know for sure. Call 'em up.

A refurb m170 is probably in better shape than your old 9300, so I would be happy. They can send me a refurb m1710 to replace my m170 anytime.

When you get it, i'm sure you won't be un-happy... That is a big leap even if it is a re-furb.

You do not know how lucky you are!

I've bought refurb systems, and actually actively seek them out. Same warranty, cheaper price (except for Dell, of course. You can buy a new one cheaper than a refurb one.)

I've never had any more problems with a refurb than a brand new system. I've owned 6 laptops (not including company ones). Sharp (Major issues, new), Toshiba, Toshiba, Gateway (major issues, refurb), Gateway(replacement for the major issues one, refurb), Sony, DellTwo of those were new, four were refurbs. Two of those six had major problems. One was a refurb, one was not.

question, i have a one year warrenty and i was wondering if i could upgrade to, like 3yr complete care? the reason i ask is because ive heard conflicting reports, i believe that, officially, you can only get complete care 21 days or earlier after your enital purchase, but the then again u officially have to pay a 15% restocking fee to return a lappy. So is it just a matter of getting the right rep?

Also how long do you think before they run out of M1710's and E1705's and have to replace my (once this comes out) dead/dying lappy with a DX10/merom/vista lappy?

I was hopping for the next step up Inspiron, but I'll take the upgrade and be happy. Like the above poster said I still get the complete care coverage on the new lappy so if it craters I just have to call them up.

Just so you know... It's in your warranty that they can use a refurb to replace your system so you are out of luck. It makes sense actually. Why would dell make a whole new laptop for you when they have a refurb that is just as good just sitting there.

No Offense to you personally, but I hear people complain about this alot and it's kind of silly. You got a newer laptop with better parts than your last. why not just be happy?

i agree with most. had my 3 yr old lcd replaced under warranty. first replacement, which was a new lcd, had 4 bad pixels. lucked out and get that replaced. wife signed to me when the repair guy was here "its a refurb" after seeing a sticker. i give the ok signal, knowing that is normally the case. turned out to be a perfect lcd, brighter too and better then my original new pixel perfect lcd.

if anything is wrong with the refurb 170, its still under warranty, so you can get it fixed. i wish i could have had that luck and received a replacement m170

I bought my I9300 as a refurb. It's been trouble free for the most part. I'd take that upgrade.

I had issues with my XPS Gen 1 and it was replaced with a refurbished XPS Gen 2 and could not be happier It was just like brand new to me. I was thrilled I did have a LCD problem but the compleate care took care of that tech came out reolaced the LCD. The machine is still running strong I sold it to a buddy when I got my M 1710 and he has had no problems he still is amazed by the power and performance of that machine. Acually feel the refurbished I would think goes through testing twice so I would imagine you would be less likely to have issues? Maybe?

My replacement arrived today....

Idle temps were in the 90's!! I have light leakage across half the screen along the bottom and all the way up the left side, AND the charging port is busted. (Tried two ac adapters to confirm)..

ON chat now and they are escalating me to the "Escalation Manager".

Soooo disappointed.
