aspire 5672 with x1600 price drops

post #1 of 11

newegg.com is selling the 5672 with the x1600 for less than the old 5672 with x1400. Is there something wrong with the one with the x1600? Why are they selling it for less then?

Im really interested in this laptop, so right now im confused as well... why is the x1600 version cheaper than the one with x1400??? the only difference is the win xp pro and win xp home?

Also, i would like more insight on the gaming capabilities of this Acer, because i want a real upgrade to my current laptop, and so far the 3dmarks kinda scared me. why would it have such low marks?

3dmarks are lower because the x1600 is underclocked?
as for pricing, could it reflect intel's new reduction in the cost of their core duo?

And also the drop in price due to the introduction of Turion X2, for competition's sake?

Yep, thats why the score is a bit lower - no biggie really.
And yeah, i would say the price drops reflect the upcoming Merom release, gotta get rid of the Core Duo chip before its too late.

It's still going to perform better than the X1400 I hope?

Much better. Even at the same clocks, the core of the x1600 still has ~ 3 the pixel rendering power-

x1600 = 12 pipes, 5 vertex units, 128 bit mem (470/~350)
x1400 = 4 pipes, 2 vertex units, 128 bit mem (445/342)

So yeah, the x1600 is the only way to go at this point.

Great Well I just found out that my visa card will extend my warranty for a year, now I just have to decide where to buy it. Newegg seems to have the best price right now (from a company that I know is good) but they don't allow any returns, only exchanges for defective merchandise. I think techonweb and buy.com will allow returns for 30 days. Choices choices I know newegg has great customer service. I don't Think I'd want to return the computer but...

Yeah Krista, it should perform better than the x1400 easily.

I wanted to buy this computer, but it seems it will have some of the annoying things my travelmate has, like high temps. Also de change from my x700 to this x1600 is not nearly as great as if i went with the Asus.

it is, however, cheaper than the Asus so i think that you should be ok with this lap Krista, it should run WoW without any problems since i was able to run WoW on my old mobility 9700 with high settings, reducing some to low at high res, so i imagine this one can pretty much run the game at max settings easily.

If ASUS matched the price I think I'd buy it, for the fully powered X1600 and cooler temps. But even with the heat, this gets good reviews, so I'm going to hope for the best.

How can Acer even sell this lappy for $1069.99, with X1600 128 meg, DVD multi Super, 120 gig 5400 RPM HD. And 1 Gig of ram.

Why is the battery life so low? it's listed as 3.5 hours for both the 5672 and the TM8204, I thought these had large batterys and lots of battery life after the Windows ACPI/USB fix? Any confirmation on battery life with the bug fixed? I thought it was supposta be 4~4.5 hours?
