You could try magic pink - RGB 255,0,255

I thought the specifications where 4 bits per pixel... so 3 bits (one for each color RGB) and one bit for alpha... now how in the freaking world do you add alpha to a bitmap? I don't think paint is capapable...

Also I am having a freaking hard problem adding my own custom picture to the image. I open up the image file and delete the 3 pics allready in there and add my custom image. Then I burn the image and my pic is nowhere to be found but the 3 pics that I deleted are still there

Yeah, had the same problem with adding my own pics. Never showed up and the ones I deleted were there magically.

Also, can't this be done via usb drive? Burning cds over and over is wasteful.

I tried in vain on booting by USB. It always gives "IO error ..." --> CDRW is my final solution

ozzlo: Echilon iso contains 2 files:
bootcat.bin
bootimg.bin

You changed bootimg.bin, didn't you ? maybe you forgot updating it back to ISO image as a boot sector
post #45 of 82
Yeah I did that... I even extraced it from the ISO after burning the CD and only my image is in there yet when I boot off of it, mine dissappears and the origional 3 magically show up.

I got a good pic too...

*edit I know the pic I put up is a jpeg... I'm using a bitmap for the splash screen don't worry (the bitmap is 900k and is a lil big to attach)

my favorite thing to do is to to a 180 degree screen rotation using nv rotate and ask someone WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!!!!!-rotate your screen 90 degrees & try to use it...It's fricking impossible lol

Or take a screenshot of an open application with the background and save it as the desktop and watch as they try desperately to close the App

My friends and I pull this at LANs. We put a folder named "Horse Porn" on the victim's desktop. We then take a screenshot of the desktop and delete the folder. Then we set the screenshot as the desktop BG. The unwitting victim tries desperately to get rid of his horse porn

Works for me too on an Inspiron 6000.

How would you go about doing this? It's actually not a bad idea, and if you've got your contact info there, then it gives whoever has the laptop a bit of extra time to write it down.

My bootscreen
I'm gonna add a small Dell logo to a corner somewhere... it just seems wierd having a bootscreen without a company logo...

TTT

Here are a few resized 16 colour .bmp's to add

Here's a few tips for anyone who wants to edit their pics, but like me doesnt know dick about image editing. Here's how you do it in adobe photoshop...

file>open>duh
image>Image Size...
-uncheck "Constrain Proportion"
-set width to 640 pixels
-set height to 480 pixels
-ok
image>mode>indexed colour...
-set palette to local
-colours=8
-forced=none
-uncheck transparencies
save as>*.bmp

For me, the best way to use this excelent tool was to extract the files in the dellsplash.ima image with WinImage, then just add them to a seperate folder to my existing multisession boot cd for flashing my video card bios. It makes adding new pictures down the line easier.

Ok. Anyone know how to go back to Dell default screen?

Havent tried it personally though Edit: Here's the rar'd executable for those who want to make it bootable themselves and too lazy to extract it from the first post Edit2: Also I just used the executable I linked to...the command for it is spl2 OFF to remove custom image Edit3: I've been having trouble with attachment space so now if you want to get the executable easy, another member has hosted SPL2.exe (and some other files) down in post #69

Anyclue if this does work on an XPS M1710 or not?

I think that my idea boot would be my name and contact info in one corner and in the other a small Dell logo. Very prof.....
sounds neat, have to give this a try on my e1705.

edit: so there is definitely no way to get the animated progress bar (not a huge deal)

edit: also is there a way to change the Dell Media Direct boot bitmap screen to something else. (this would be really nice) Please someone !?!

It works on my M1710 but after a couple hours of not being able to load my own pics I went back to default. The aliens pic was alright but I would much rather look at a dell logo than some frigging penguin.
