yeah the plextor is great, or you can wait till March or April when the 8 point whatever Gig DVDs come out and u can burn on them and store more! Thats what i am doing or if ya cant wait, i suggest the plextor!
When you say 8 point -- gig dvd is coming out in March or April, did you mean the dvd media or a new external dvd burner? Current Plextor specs are: "Description for PX-708UF DVD±RW Writer: The Plextor PX-708UF delivers fast performance in dual formats: 8X DVD+R write, 4X DVD-R write, 4X DVD+RW rewrite, 2X DVD-RW rewrite, and 12X DVD-ROM read."
Yeah, soon there will be dual-layer DVD-Media, just like the DVD movies you buy from stores. When that becomes a reality, there will be no need to split a movie onto 2 disks or compress it. The capacity of the media will be first 8Gb, then eventually reach 9.6Gb. Pioneer claims that current DVD drives can record on future dual-layer DVD media with just a firmware change. But don't believe it wholeheartedly just yet.
I went with the LITEON DVD RW, so far so good. It works with everything i have thrown at it and for the cost of 165.00 you cant go wrong. Sure it isn't a Plextor or a Sony but it works flawless as far as i have seen
