not to mention, swapping a Merom in place of a Yonah requires a bios update. Think about it from the company's (Dell's for instance) perspective. Which is more profitable for them: releasing a BIOS allowing customers to upgrade their own laptop (not to mention possibly voiding their warranty in the process) or make no bios update and require those desperate for upgrade to buy a new laptop?

That would only happen if Dell releases entirely new notebooks for Merom, and if the past is any indication, as long as they can just drop in the Merom into their current designs they'll just release a new BIOS to support it. That would be nearly the same as the Banias to Dothan (version 1 with 400MHz FSB) transition.

It depends on the configuration. The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator is for sure the least performant video solution. A 6150 Go or a X1100 is better. But if you want to game you should at minimum go with a Go 7600 or a X1600. Asus released the ASUS Z9201T here in Europe, which is maybe interesting for you. Here is link with specs: http://amd-notebooks.de/blog/tag/turion-64-x2
