JRod, just wondering where you live? States? Canada?
Did you have to send back your 9100 when the new laptop came in?

hi, this is a very interesting convo... just wondering, anyone have any experience dealing with dell in the UK? are they just as willing to do this sort of thing... it's just i've got a well speced 9100, see sig, and it is really freaking me out recently... i mean we have had to wipe and reformat it twice on our own, coz it just freezes, wipes all MY stuff but keeps everyhting you don't want... i had £200 of music... ALL WIPED! we treid a recovery program but nothing has worked so far... the fan goes mad, i actually had a friend on the phone ask me what i was doing.... lol... anyway, do these sound like adiquite reasons to talk to dell? i know you never know till u do, but just want to check it will be worth it and they won't just tell me too *** off... lol, also i am getting the new XPS this summer anyway, should i try and work this in somehow? lol, this sounds soo bad...Also it recieves many a bump travleing round school, and i AM genuinelyy worried that it wipes some of my coursework for GCSE (most important exams for any americans lol)

Anyone try complaining about the heat issue who doesn't have a warranty?

I'm wondering how spooked the exploding incident has them even though it's the old battery issue (which as far as I know is unrelated to the 9100)...
Well, all I can say is good luck to all of you. The heat issue is what did it for me. I am in the United States and yes I had to send back the 9100.
hmm, I still have about a year left on my CompleteCare coverage so I might give it a try before it's used up. Only problem is my 9100 has been pretty stable for me. Should I just lie and tell them I've been smelling something burning lately or it's been crashing a lot lately?
If the heat issue worked for the other guy it might for you...prolly wouldn't even have to lie, really...these things do run HOT...try holding your hand to the RAM compartment and/or holding the powerbrick after playing games for a few hours...that'll give you some descriptive language to use that doesn't require lying...
Yeah, the thing is, you WOULDN'T be lying. So you won't even have to feel bad about it.
True, it does run pretty hot. But I think I'll wait a bit until I call them. They're probably getting tons of calls right now about overheating laptops that need replacing. I still can't believe you got yours replaced with a top of the line system.

I can't believe it either... I was expecting a 9300 or 1705 at BEST.

Actually now is the time...Im not going to tell you to cheat them..but why the exploding laptop is still very public...I don't think they are risking it right now..

I would have to agree. I didn't make much of a fuss and the person I chatted with basically just gave in.

Just over a year ago I had my 9100 replaced with a xps gen 2. I'd had a few problems with the 9100 which ment I had the mobo replaced 3 times. They finally fixed the problem by replacing the proccesor but the volume buttons wouldn't work. They sent out 2 technitions who both replaced the buttons and they still didn't work so I ended up with the xps I'm in the UK so it seems like dell are willing to do this everywhere. My advice is just keep buggin them about any problems you have and they'll eventually just dish you out a sparkly new lappy to keep you happy.

After reading this thread I was inspired to call dell and go through the hassle to see what they would do. This machine has had so many issues, (2x)bad sound ports attached to the fan, bad mobo. I called and complained about the machine running hot, 2.8 Prescott, and it’s been unreal and actually am afraid of a fire starting, as well as a fraying on the power brick that’s lead to sparking. I was bounced around first from tech support than to hardware warranty support, which I was told can issue the exchange of a machine initiated. There sending out a new heat sink, and fans (which were just replaced) and running fine and clean. The heat sink, was changed on the last mobo, so I'm waiting for a tech to tell me yea the heat sinks fine. As a student and a Network Consultant this laptop has been down every 6 months with new issues, which to me is unacceptable. We'll see I'll keep yea updated, and thanks to everyone that’s posted here I’ve always read it, and its resolved issues on the machine.

I just finished the process dealing with dell. After 3 screens, a new MB, all new fans, cpu heatsink, etc., my system had been getting really hot. Especially the power brick... YOW!!!! that thing gets hot. In fact it got so hot it hurt my daughters (2 1/2yrs) hand when she got curious the other day and put her hand on it. I do a lot of Adobe stuff and occasionally game and this thing shouldnt get this hot. I mean I even had to buy a SB Audigy notebook to get past the frickin buzzing the stock jack puts out...

Well long story short, they wanted me to send it into the depot and I just told him that I feared that if I did send it in and they did "fix" it, that more than likely some issue will happen again. At that point I realized that "big brother" was listening on the line and approved the replacement at that point.

Specs are in the Sig....

omg that is amazing!!! Congrats; sorry to hear bout ur daughter hands, but im sure she was acting for you... lol. anyway, so you just told them that you didn't want to risk more accidents and they gave in... interesting... my dell 9100 has been mucking up and when i game it scalds my lap, lol... my dad won't let me use the dinning room table anymore coz he fears it will actually damage it!!! anyway, so did anyoine here with these problems come from the UK?? coz if you phone up here you get put through tom someone in INDIA and i literally can;t understand half of what they say!!! i had to hang up!!! is there an email address i can email? or is there a special line with english speakers? thanks for any help!
unfortunately dell's system autoroutes you to where you need to go by express code. XPS users are fortunate enought to be sent to the XPS call center in Tennesee where other inspiron users are sent here, there, and india...

Now if your problems are legit, they would be more than happy to ship you a new system, you just have to go through a bit of hell first... or is that dell?
lol, nice... well i would be more than happpy to to suffer a bit to get my laptop fixed as i am enereing GCSE's so i need one that wokrs and doesn't keep wiping my school coursework.
yeah.. this machine has almost lost me data twice... thank god I have data recovery skills.
