The W3J resolution of 1280 x 768 is just too small for my taste. Is there anything that can be done to increase the resolution short of installing a new screen? Also can anyone recommend a laptop that is virtually identical to the w3j with a bigger resolution? Thanks.

Nope, nothing you can do.
Closest 14" widescreen available now with a higher resolution WXGA+ (1440x900) and dedicated graphics is the Dell Latitude D620 with the NVS 110m. The GPU is based on the go7300 and is significantly slower than the X1600.
If you're willing to go with a standard ratio 14", the 14" T60p has a SXGA+ (1400x1050) resolution and the FireGL v5200 that's based on the X1600.

With websites you can always increase the font size (control +).
Or go to your display properties -> settings -> advance -> dpi setting to large or customize it.
Other then that not much u can do.. I have to say it's just the right size for me.. I found it too large on my old 15.4" notebook.. Now i'm loving it

Hmm... Seems to be confusion what "bigger resolution" means here...
Apparently, megasquid wants smaller resolution so that the text size etc. will look bigger? In that case, just adjusting the font size will do most of the trick.
If you want greater resolution (more dots per inch and smaller text etc.), then you'll have to change the display itself, or buy a new computer.
