It looks fine to me. The light leakage isn't apparent to me (it looks uniformly dark when the screen is black).

Everyone seems to suggest the screen is terrible but I've not notived anything. Well, I have noticed that the screen is a little "pinched" in the two bottom corners but it's not really noticeable.

How much better are the other screens and should I be fighting for one?

I might be wrong but I think most complaints are for the 1705 screens. the 1710 uses different screens.
And if you dont notice anthing really wrong with your screen dont mess with things.

I had both the SEC3155 and the LPL00000 screens. The difference isn't very big at all. I wouldn't fret about it, it's not a very big deal.

Thanks - I guess you hear so much about these things that you almost go looking for problems when you unpack your new purchase.

This is an amazing laptop...my last one was a Pentium III 500mhz so it's like hitting lightspeed..

Out of Curiosity, on your UPS tracking, did it show the laptop as coming from Tennessee(Nashville) or from Texas/Nevada?

Mine was delivered via Purolator from Ontario, Canada. It originally came from the US but I cannot tell from where. Sorry.

That ok i just wanted to see if there was a correlation between factories and screens.(i.e. malayisia having LG's and Texas having Samsung and Sharp)

I love my Samsung.

The 1705 and 1710 share the same LCD screens for WUXGA. The difference in panels vary based on the panel not the vendor. I have seen all three, Sharp, Samsung and LG Philips side by side and the Samsung looked the best to me but the other 2 were so close it wouldn't be worth a swap.
