What one do you think is better? And why?

X1600... the benchmarks show it... the X1600 kills the 7400

What he said. I almost thought this was meant to be a joke.

The 7400 is not meant to compete with the X1600. Compare the 7600 to the X1600 and the 7400 to the X1400.

why i as is because i was looking at the dell xps 1210 vs the asus w3j laptop. i wanted something i could do video editing and gaming with. i like the 12" screen on the dell for on the road. what do you guys think of this?

I know the XPS M1210 is very small...

The ASUS will be a lot better for your gaming.. the X1600 almost doubles the 7400 in peformance... its a size versus peformance issue.. personally I would like a bigger screen for my games and sacrifice the small size

Ya but i have the dell xps gen 2 right now and dame it's to big to travel with. great on game. F.E.A.R runs great. You can't even open it up on a plane.

If you don't mind having the detail level low for newer games, and you really want the portability, then by all means go for the smaller laptop.

It really depends on the types of games you're looking at playing, and the level of detail / framerate that you're willing to play them at. So, eh, what are you looking at playing, and how much do you care about graphics?

i Saw a video of a guy running F.E.A.R. on the M1210 with the 7400 (with auto settings) and it actually looked really good. I read a review on notebookreview.com and it showed a dude playing HL2 with almost max settings. It looked bootiful. Right now im playing HL2 (which i love) on a 128mb Geforce something adn 1gb of ram. I wanna save the rest of HL2 for when i get my m1210.

One thing you should keep in mind. Even though the x1600 is a better card, that particular notebook your talking about has a heat issue. I already own a hot notebook that i can't put on my lap or have to use an external keyboard for because the palm rest gets to warm. Is have a cooler unit you can actually pick up worth a hit in performance over one that needs to sit on a desk because of the heat? It really just depends which is important to you. I just sold my Sager 9880 because I want to be moble..in my car..outside etc..but I will miss the beautiful performance of having the 6800 Ultra in my unit. But I have a desktop to make up for the performance im loosing.

The 7400 is slightly worse than an X1400

Depends on how much you travel. If you travel 50% or more for work, then go with the smaller, lighter laptop for the following reasons:
- You will notice the weight of a larger laptop while you are commuting
- Smaller laptops are easier to use in coach class on airplanes. This includes watching DVDs
- The XPS 1210 has better battery life than the W3J... very important if you fly a lot.
- A lot of the games that are graphically intense are very difficult to play in-transit. Can't play MMORPGs or FPS games. You'd most likely be playing strategy games or emulators, which don't require a lot of GPU power.

And personally, I game a lot less when I am travelling, simply because I have less time to do it when I am at client sites.

Just my $0.02

I'd say go with HP over Packard Hell anyday...They screwed so many of us in the past..I wouldn't care if they made the best system since sliced bread today..
