So I called and complained, and harped those tech support peeps till they folded.

my system as of late has been running an idle temp of 78 to 81 degrees and in games gets awefully close to thresh hold and sometimes it has been passing it and DVD's and games show visibly when they throttle down just starts crawling. I think I got a first revision 7800. They are going to replace it with a 7900GS =)

Man what a pain these guys are, one dell tech said that 82 degrees idle is normal I almost shoved my fist through the phone into his face

After reading all these stories I think I'm going to call Dell and tell them how it sux that I dont have a Dell yet and that they should compensate me for not having a Dell.

Well Dell kind of make some rash choices sometimes. For the latest group of laptops by switching all these video cards around and hiring out of country support there is alot of inconsistent issues.

not having enough stock of the 7800go cards to begin with, then putting one out with poor cooling issues, then adding that crappy x1400 (should have just left it the onboard intel gfx.

Its all a big clusterf*&^% <==== user added censorship =)

some of us pay either big money for the XPS or just a little less for the next models down, but we expect with our warrantees to have a little more intellegent support the canned responses from Habib Gupta making unfounded technical statements like 79degrees C when idle is normal is just plain silly. Makes you think sometimes.
