8204 and Vista

Hi all,

I had previously installed Vista Beta 2 in a dual boot setup (The 8204 runs the beta as if it were built for it...almost as snappy as XP) and yesterday I decided to uninstall it...but I chose the dumbest way possible.

I decided to format the 20 gb partition I had Vista on using PartionMagic then immediately merge this partition with another 46 gb storage partition. Unfortunately I forgot about the boot loader which is proving to be a pain to get rid of. Any advice on getting rid of the boot loader?

I've tried booting from the acer system recovery disc to delete using Fdisk to no avail...the lack of a real XP disc is a pain. Any help is appreciated.

Vista was amazing on the 8200. Its just with this beta I didn't see much difference from using XP besides the eye candy. If you have a day, install it cause you'll need to install it then install all the drivers.

I had one of the earlier builds of Vista installed and when I uninstalled I too had problems with the bootloader. What I did was boot into my XP partition and go to C:. Apparently Vista saved the bootloader onto XP's partition. Just go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Click Show Hidden Files and Folders, and Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files. Then you should find Vista bootloader. I remember there being a backup copy saved by default, so I deleted the original and renamed the backup and everything worked for me. In any case I think you should back up any important data you have first before trying that. Good Luck.
