EX7: Having very poor game play experience

3.4
1gig ram
x800 video

When running games I seem to always have a problem with it being "choppy".
I load up a game and it seems to stall every once and awhile. The sound will skip along with the current frame. It is becoming very frustrating because my desktop computer which is a 1.8 geforce 4 runs smoother. Im at a loss of what to do.

Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks

How old is the system and what do you have running while you are playing? The other question is, is this with network (online games) or playing locally? A lot of this makes a difference and without the information, it is a bit hard to help with.

The EX7 definitely handles the gaming, so it is not the matter of the system. I am not experienced with the x800 card - however, I am not expecting this to be the issue.

I would, though, check for other programs that may be running in the background that are eating processes causing this issue. If you have had the system for quite some time (the EX7 came out Spring 05), it could be that the system is in need of a fresh reload as there may be a lot of stuff bogging it down. If you have had it for a short period of time, I would still check the processes and those items that are running at startup to see if you picked up an errant program hogging resources.

Good luck!

what games are you playing and what are the in game settings........and like rat said above more info needed....if your not online in MP disable firewalls...antivirus...anything you dont need....I have my card reader disabled in the bios ..I dont use it for now so no need in it using power or resources..I have a ne ex7 with a 3.8 and the nVidia 7800gtx..tried a little of COD2 but have played so many times I lost interest..my ex7 did better than my wifes qomio g25 but it has the 6200 nvidia card.....I am waiting for an upgrade to the 7900gtx and that should be here mid next week and I belive that will allow me to turn the in game settings wide open......you can download a free version of Fraps..it will show you how many fps you are getting while playing games..I use the pay version because I like the features that are not in the free version.................also have you updated bios...video card...chipsets...and other hardware drivers

here are some links about the ati card..I like rat know little about them..benn a nVidia card person since my first machine

I have the ATI Mobility Radeon X800 in my EX6 machine, and it should run all games flawlessly pretty much on max graphical settings in most games.

For those wanting to compare to Nvidia, it is on par with the GeForce Go 6800 DDR3 card (NOT Ultra).

I would recommend you download the latest video drivers directly from ATI since this card is supported. The link is as follows:

We'll I just reformatted, updated bios and am Installing the correct drivers as we speak. I don't get alot of time to try changes so Im doing it now. Thanks for your help.

It happens with any game I play, Im thinking its a video driver problem.

WoW and CS Source mainly.

After everything I just did it still does it in WoW. Im not quite sure what to do from here.

Nothing running in the back ground. Brand new install and it still chops every once and awhile.

The secret is if this is happening on locally played games. WoW has a lot to do with lag, network congestion, or even weather depending on the type of connnection you have. This will definitely provide the coppiness. If, however, this is happening when you are playing non-network games - then there must be a system issue. Need to track it down to which category of problems before you can find the problem.

Upgrade to 2 Gig of RAM.

I had a bad memory board last week, reduced me from 2G to 1G. I noticed "lag" symptoms while running on 1G. Once the new memory came and I was back to 2G, no more symptoms. This occured in BF2, DDO, and LoTR3. Eve-Online never had a problem with 1G, but its more streamlined since its space based.

I have found that my EX7 will perform under par in Call of Duty 2 if I set all the ingame options to their maximum settings...I am using the 7900 gtx card also...If I choose the recomended setting its does good....but even when plugged into ac outlet I have had the mobo utility running at the same time and the cpu drops from 3.8 down as low as 3.0 durring intense battles...but at the same time the temp will jump up into the 70c,s....I found if I play near the airconditioning vent and make sure the laptop is raised this dont happen as much...its a little disapointing...I am trying to find another war game to test this on....I am gonna try an play it on battery next....but on battery the cpu clocks at 3.27 even at idle so I anit expecting much....I may have a problem with the battery , I called tech and they were suppose toi get back to me...but I will call them again.....right now I got some other things on my mind...I have to go into the hospital tommorow and have a heart cathiter done....not getting enough blood to part of my heart...so I may have to have a stint or a bypass done.....I will know more tommorrow after they do the cathiter...

I just checked the mobo utility and my temps are 60c and the cpu is clocking between 3.8 and 3.85.....I will get a coler for this after I get my heart done...they realy do need one.....hypersonic should look into this and find a good cooler and offer it to their customers....I would like to find a way to blow not just air under it to the fans..but cold air.....

well...I just got home from Hospital...they found 2 blocked arteries in my heart..one was 90% blocked..the other 100%..they were able to insert 2 stints after they did the ballon thingy to clear out the blockage....was pretty cool..I was awake the whle time...I feel alot better....not so much tired as before.........guess I best stop smoking now..........they kept me overnight...the whole thing took less than 30 minutes each procedure....its amazing what they can do today...if this works...I wont have to have a bypass.....
