Received my 5680 - very nice computer. It has its ins and its outs.
Heres what I like:
1. Very fast. 2.8GHz, 1024 Mb RAM etc.
2. Not one dead, stuck, or hot pixel!
3. color.

What I dont like:

1. Screen is a bit dim.
2. keyboard is a little flimsy, feels almost loose only on the right side.
3. very "generic" looking computer. (compared to the other laptops I have owned Toshiba 5205-s703, HP zd7000, IBM R31)
4. the weight. not bad though considering whta you get!

The PC is definitley a monster - fast and heavy. I would like to look into this keyboard a little more.

Does anyone oyut there have this problem with the keyboard?

you can always adjust screen light...by keypad Fn+ f8 i think, id agreed on too generic

My 5680 has a pretty stable keyboard. It flexes a little more than my older HP model, but after typing many many reports on it this past weeks is more than acceptable. I have read other posts suggesting placing some padding beneath it however. Should be do-able in just a few minutes in fact. Do a search and see what people have said.

As far as the look I could care less. I mean, it looks better than most Dells in my opinion. If anything it looks a LOT better than those big, oddly shapped Toshibas I see all over :P The silver and light blueish-grey coloring is nice, as I personally didn't want another black case. With the ability to add a personalized palm rest and I saw someone selling a metal mod for the top plastic component there is some room for everyone to add to their system's style.

5680

i dont really mind the look much - all it is is a computer!
as for the keyboard I called tech support and they told me to bend it I did. now its nice, except my space bar is a liyttle to "clicky" its annoying when I type.

I came very close to sending this PC back because of the keyboard. I was gonna go with the 4780, but i decided to wait for a wuxga to come out.

bottom line is this computer does what it should and does it well. Ill stick with 5680!

IMO the screen on my 5680 is still kind of dim with the brightness all the way up.....No complaints tho, the screen is still amazing.

I got my 5680 over a week ago and I finally feel comfortable enough to state my opinions.

My first impression was also that the screen was too dim even after maxing out the setting. However if you go into the advanced display properties you can bump the brightness much farther. If you play with that a bit you will be quite happy. You can even set up hotkeys so that you can instantly decrease or increase brightness, gamma etc.

As for the looks, since I was deciding between this or the alien-ware, yeah I would have loved some color options. If I would have known about PCTORQUE.com I probably would have bought from them, but they do charge substantially for the color options $400 if I remember right.

Wow if anything I think the screen is too bright :P I sometimes turn it down 2-3 notches if I am working in a dark room... interesting. Further fuel that maybe several varieties of screens exist :P How's ghosting on yours?

happy with mine

I've had mine for a few weeks and love it. I was worried about the pixels issue because everyone seems to make a big deal about it but didn't have any on mine. My only issues would be with the left side of the keyboard creaking a bit and the right side getting a bit warm. What was the suggestion about "bending" the keyboard? I was also concerned about the HD and fan noise but even when it goes to max fan noise briefly when booting it's not too bad. Other than the keyboard, I have zero complaints so far. Aj

Dohh... need to get to doing my review. I like the flex in the keypad. Feels more responsive then the stiff boards. Yeah, wish mine was brighter. Don't get me wrong, it's bright, but hey... it can always be brighter. Wish I could check it against the specks.
