5620 100% Dead

I loved the laptop for 4 years, then one day it just refused to power on. Like the power lights wouldnt even do anything when the button is pressed. Now I can get the laptop to "turn on" but it doesnt post, the hard drives spin up ect. But no Bios, no boot. I found the CMOS battery and disconnected it, but to no avail.

#1, anyone have this problem and fix it? I know its unlikely as i figure the motherboard died.
#2 anyone successfully buy a motherboard from sager, prostar, clevo...?
#3 anyone have a 56xx series motherboard for sale?
#4 if i HAVE to suck up the cost of sending it back to them for a repair, how much would it cost, if anyone has any idea...

Thanks
Lap.

Is the power brick getting power?
Have you tried taking out//replacing the battery?

Laptop king has the following (out of stock of course).

5600P motherboard for Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz processors (not compatible with other speeds)

And i really dont know why it wouldn't be compatable with other speeds, 2.4ghz was an option, but i got 2.2ghz.

As far as the brick not getting power, i considered that, as far as i can tell; it charges the battery (the laptop will last ~10 minutes on just the battery). If the power supply wasnt up to spec, the battery would still be able to power up the system. It also acts exactly the same on just the power supply brick, no battery installed.

Thanks for the ideas anyhow.

Would anyone know if the computer has a standard P4, or some shrunken version. Im 80% sure its not a mobile P4. Thats the last thing i want to try before i send it back.

The Sager 5620 uses standard northwood P4s. Its a non-hyperthreaded, 478 pin, 130nm P4 without HT. The 5620 doesn't support HT P4s because it uses the Intel 845 chipset on its mobo. That chipset only supports non-HT versions of northwood P4s.

Since non-HT northwoods originally only went up to 2.4 ghz that's probably why it says it only supports P4s to 2.4 ghz.

That said, Intel did later release non-HT northwoods of the 2.6 and 2.8 variety. I have a 2.8 in one of my home desktops using an old 845 Intel mobo. I had to flash a new bios (courtesy of Intel) in order for it to work, however, and I don't know if Sager ever released a bios for the 5620 to allow it to suport the 2.6 or 2.8 non-HT northwood P4. You might want to check the Sager Tech support website. It has an archive of specs and drivers for discontinued models.

Sager Hardware Specs

Note that under driver downloads for the 5620 no bios is listed. You are required to call Sager.

Hope that helps.
