Wireless LAN/Bluetooth Software Switch

Sony Vaio VGN-SZ1XP/C
The green blue WLAN/BT switch that sits in the system tray seems to have dissapeared from my system after I installed the Nokia PC suite, and Bluetooth is now permanently on. I found the actual application and double clicked it several times but it failed to start. I removed the Nokia PC suite, but that didn't help, I then removed the Toshiba Bluetooth stack, but that didn't help either. I then removed the Wireless Switch application, thinking to re-install it. However, I now can't find it anywhere to re-install it. Anyone make any suggestions?

The easiest for you would be to back up your data and then restore....

It might be easy but that would seem awfully time consumming to solve what seems a pretty straight forward issue.

Try this...

My wireless switch utility disappeared as well. I had to install a "newer" version of the switcher utility at the URL above and now it works like a charm...
Give it a try!

asus_fiend, you're a top bloke, this is working fine so far. Thank you. Incidentally I logged this with Sony's e-support at the weekend, phoned Tuesday and they said they were busy. Still no update to my case logged with them. They suck.

Tell them you figured it out yourself and would they like to hire you for tech support! HA... I'm glad it worked out for you and you got your switch back and working properly.

New Wireless Switching Utility

Yeah, but the New Wireless Switching Utility removes the 5ghz option and thus another feature that doesn't work.

Not for me, it works just fine on my machine. 5 or 2.4 option is present.

Sorry complete crap. The 5Ghz option is now missing.

After a bit of toing and froing Sony's main suggestion seems to consist of a system recovery. This will of course result in the switch utility working, until I install my applications again. I really expected more of Sony, I guess we live and learn.

Give SmartWi a try.

There's no tray icon and it's faster and easier to switch through connections, simply by pressing the fn and f1 keys.

It doesn't give me the option to switch between A and B/G though, does that work for you?
Although I only use 802.11g, the option to switch connection standards is located here:

I'm not sure if it supports 802.11a.

That's the same as mine, B, G or B&G but no A, my laptop certainly supports A. It's a pity Sony have not got this sorted. The various Sony forums on the net suggest the issue with this wireless switcher is hardly unknown..
