rc1 updates - some quirkiness & some good news (u decide what is what):
. my total commander works with limited functionalities (i can shortcut from xp partition or install direct): meaning when on certain file types (especially DLLs) vista would stop them from being copying, something that has to do with hidden attributes. The work-around is to use vista explorer. Here one can see why, vista asks for confirmation and security bypass before coyping the files. I have reported this to microsoft
. still haven't found a decent burning software to be used under vista, vista has some built-in function for video and audio, but normal file burning is still a big miss. Many threads on the net mentioning about using nero, in my case this is full of hogwash, i went from 5 to 7 and none of the nero worked. Heard about roxio, but it DEMANDS payment - heck, this is still vista beta and they want to bleed the consumers, these guys r nut.
. i have applied some registry tweak taken from xp - working like a charm so far
. tcp/ip tweak: this is a high-five for microsoft. I did not need to apply any performance tweak in this area, and it is flying like if i m in xp when using the net
. bloated services: i m impressed that vista has wisely setting a lot of services under MANUAL instead of the AUTOMATIC as in xp, hats off on this
. screen resolution: i must (98% of the time) at new start up or restart, readjust my screen resolution, vista seemed always start up with 1024x768. Might u, the aero theme is still active. Info-> microsoft
. on going ...
