VISTA and radeon mobility 9600 - Page 4

So far Nero Express 6 (6.3.1.4) OEM (Memorex) seems to run fine under Vista RC-1 64 Bit. I was able to burn a CD-RW of audio tracks with no problem.

Now it did come up with all the error warnings during the install and when I first tried to run the app about problems running under Vista but so far I have not had any problems.

I will try a DVD later an and report back.

installing my OEM again, same version as urs

got NERO to work (thx AVspec), take (swallow) it all back what i said before

just a footnote:
1. ignoring all vista error warnings at installation and at starting (confirming AVspec notes above)
2. do not use startsmart, but just call nero.exe straight - using startmart will result in "specifed host adapter invalid"

phewwww - what a relief - cd & dvd work!

Same results here.

So you say it pays to intall ATi drivers? I am still using the stock Vista ones.

Can you point me to the Office Beta? Is there a 64 bit version? I really only need word for spell check ;-)

office 2007 beta
http://www.microsoft.com/office/prev...etthebeta.mspx
no distinction between 32&64bits - u might have to sign up to get a key for it

i see not too much of a difference between ativistabeta driver and the RC1Stock , but for some graphic apps like Google Earth/sketchUp it does make a diiference. What is missing in vista is the OpenGL support, but i believe that uncle bill has a slighter hand in bundling this inside directx10 - still need to do some more research on this

so the 64bitsRC1 doing (very) well then?

cheers ...

Yes it is, in fact since you mentioned the USB mouse thing, I moved it off the dock direct to the laptop and now the keyboard will bring the 6805 out of sleep and it is connected to the Medion dock. It must be something with the mouse that causes a problem.

I have a key for the office beta (had it for months) but could never find were do download it from.

Now I just need to find a 64 bit virus protection.

some mouse do, & some don't - safe is always direct to the system port

take a bit to get use to all the options layout right in ur face, but i really like it myself (it is fast comparing to my office 2000).
after install, u need to open a document , this will trigger the registration and un.lock the working mechanism

avast (free.version) is doing a heck of a job on my vista at the moment, it is smart to detect either u have 32bits or 64bits
the usual - ignore all vista warning during installation
this + windows defender + windows firewall = not bad for vista at the moment

cheers ...
Will try avast.

Any 64 Bit newsreader out?

Also I see Netgear does not support Vista yet? I have a WG511T card and can not get it to work under Vista 64. Just using the Broadcom built in drivers and wireless with the 6805 currently but would not mind a bit more speed until I get my new house direct wired....

want to try this for ur card? http://america.giga-byte.com/Communi...an42052bin.zip or try the "64bit_wlan42052bin.zip" from PlanetAMD64 - make sure that u disable the driver signing" heard quite a few users got success with them cheers ...

I get "Not digitally signed"

and Vista says it must be a digitally signed driver to install?

Well now I get "Windows cannot load device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

????

Cool trick though! ;-)

rc1 running apps cont'd:
. sisoft sandra Lite SP1 - works correctly and recognises Vista with built nbr/version
. cyberlink powerDVD
. dvdIdlePro - does not show icon, but runs correctly

********************************************************************************** *********
rc1 - fixed in RTM:
. atitray 1.0.58

********************************************************************************** *********
rc1 - tested but no go:
. Zone Alarm
. systool

I m installing & testing apps that i currently use in xp environment.
It is true that it exists disclaimers/"so.called" confirmations that certain apps run or do not run under vista.
This is fine & dandy, but my goal is trying to see for myself if the current vista environment could offer me a measurement mechanism to estimate the changeover, or shall i say, to give me enough incentive to be using vista at least at an 80-85% capacity

oh, do please feel free to weigh-in ur experiences, since i cannot (dare not) speak for everyone else

Thanks for link. I will give it a try when I get back from San Fran next week (thursday)

I have 3 or 4 devices that are not being reconized by Vista, one of them being my Tevion USB webcam. (Purchased from Aldi)

I also had a slow boot up last time that XP has also been doing? Not sure if it is the 6805 or what?
aldi? like in germany?

have u tried direct by medion.de for the drivers? or better yet, pull it over manually from ur xp environment, it works with vista via these "have disk" option MOST of the time

boot_up_slow: i turned off my disk indexing and noticed that if u start ur router 1st (if u have one) before turning the machine on then it is quite quick coming up. vista is still in the beta, unless this slow.boot is consistent, i would just look at it as a hiccup that ms must fix before the roll out.

off the subject, m i imagining thing?
but i am swearing that firefox is performing much, much faster than ie7 under vista

cheers ...

clarification in "fixed in RTM" - my interpretation:
- the app could have run ok, but whatever reason vista does not deliver the correct machine information (or something in that direction)
- simply saying, heck, uncle bill was not playing by the rule

interesting article coming across, debating about how much is Vista really worth (one shoudl be paying)
http://mobilityguru.com/2006/09/14/g...ame/index.html

of course, providing that the consumer takes all the offered options
interesting to know that i m using(testing) the ULTIMATE version, expensive cow, must i say
