Putting a 533mhz FSB CPU into a 400mhz FSB pc?

Thread Starter
Hello and long time no talk,

I was wondering if it was possible to put my 2.0 ghz 533mhz front side bus Pentium-M cpu into my Dad's Latitude D810 laptop and still have it run at 2ghz? I then plan on taking his 1.7ghz 400mhz CPU and pinmodding it to something around 2.2-2.3ghz. Will this work?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the D810 supports 533Mhz FSB. But if it doesn't the D810 will underclock the 2.0Ghz Pentium M since the FSB will be reduced but the Multiplier will remain the same.

d810 can do 533fsb

a 533fsb chip in a 400fsb laptop will operate at 100/133 (3/4) of it's stock speed

Follow up question....
Does anyone know if the Latitude D505 with the 855GME chipset will support 533fsb processors. I am currently running a P4 Dothan 1.6 with 2MB cache, and 400fsb. Thanks in advance,

I doubt a 400fsb board would support a 533fsb. All the ones I've tried haven't worked.

The D810 runs 533FSB. It was offered with both Dothan and Banias CPU's. The D505 on the other hand would require a 915 chipset or higher, I believe, in order to support 533FSB. It would run a 533 CPU at 400FSB.

it will be supported, only thing is, its a waste of money. if u put a 533 in a 400MHz slot, then the 533 will automatically downclock itself to 400MHz, thus giving you not improvement

Thanks for the input. I was considering trying the bridge of the two pins on the CPU to change it from 400 to 533. I just need to make sure that the chipset can handle that fast of a bus.
