Heh Not bad, I will be redoing my Linux box when I get back to it, enabling Transparency and the like as I just heard of a very cool idea of keeping my mixer in the background behind my sequencer in Ardour with transparency I want to try out and see how it affects things. Ill have to post if it works.

Nice setup ^. I'm in the process of "emerge xgl compiz-vanilla", I'll post the outcome later. I just learned about xgl.

I've actually completely removed it too. Apparently you can't run the 32bit opengl libraries (with 64bit kernel) with xgl which is critical for cedega/Wine/WineX. I also could not adjust any of the nvidia xserver settings like color balance or aa.

Removing xgl also fixed alot of the weird overlay issues I had with google earth. My install of xgl was very stable, but I really need to have 3d functionality now that games are playing so well through cedega. It just doesn't work well enough to use on my main machine.

i think that once they resolve the opengl slow down issue that plagues games and other programs that require opengl, i'll go back to using it because the features are pretty snazzy, also a good way to make your windows/mac user friends jelous

I just turned it off in my start up session, on occasion I let it run, but it seems to me that it's just getting slower and slower, must be something to do with the updates.

I tried removing it just in my startup session too, but it didn't solve my issues. I had to completely remove XGL to get the Nvidia drivers and 32 bit libraries running properly. I'm guessing 32bit users don't have this problem.

I don't (32 bit, Gentoo 2.6.16-r10, Xgl 0.0.1_p20060619-r2, Compiz-quinnstorm 0.0.13.12_p20060710). I don't notice any performance problems either, yet. As a matter of fact the thing I love the most is the performance gain I got. I get 7k FPS with glxgears now, where I was previously getting 5k. Although I do have an odd bug creep up here and there it's not a problem..

Here's an updated screenshot. Spent alot of time on this one. Got my fonts to behave exactly like windows so websites work absolutely perfect now. Background is just a transparency with a drop shadow for the upper bar with the gnome gradient overlay. Icons are a mix of several icon packages. I made some gradient graphcs for the gnome panels. Desktop font is antialiased because they look horrible otherwise with that offset effect. Fonts are actually only antialiased under a few circumstances. I also edited the Compiz GTK2 theme to be gray rather than blue. XGL And compiz are no longer implemented.
