Bleh I'm still dealing with Dell and the screwed up refurbished LCD's they keep sending me. Today they promised me a WUXGA screen for my troubles only to take the offer back claiming the other supervisor was wrong. So I just took the case number and referred it to outstanding issues, I've wasted weeks on these losers already and still haven't gotten a working screen out of them.

I just got my e1705 with a 7900gs. this is my first laptop so i don't know too much about the temps of the gpu's of them, but the temp seems really high on my 7900gs. My Idle temps have been around 68-77, which seems really high to me...expecially since some people on this forum have overclocked and still stayed around 60. are my temps normal for an e1705 just out of the box? Thanks in advace for your help

Mine are like that. I keep the fans on low at all times and it idles between 48 and 50 degrees, which is quite cool. I think your fine. Nothing to worry about.

Could anyone with a 7900 gs do some gaming benchmarks for me. Just curious on the comparison to the 7800 gtx in games since all Ive seen is
3dmark. Benchmarks like cs sourse stress test or doom 3 at high resolution would be great. Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to mention that my 650/600 is rock solid stable. I've played a few hours each of WoW, C&C:generals, WC3, and HL2:ep1. And although atitool finds artifacts, I haven't seen anything in-game yet. So try some in-game testing before you panic.

My next bad idea is to open it up and arctic silver all the heat sinks. This cooled my old inspiron 8500 by a good 10 degrees celcius.

Then, does anyone know of an overclocking method for the duo cpu? I searched the forum for a pin mod and didn't see anything for us.

CS:S stress test: 108fps

Settings:
GPU clocked at stock speeds
1440x900
All settings max, except hdr off

Tell me if you want different settings. I can't go higher than 1440x900 though since I have the wxga screen.

Hope this helps

7900bootrev5 lock ups

Hey Guys,

I need a bit of help here. When running the 7900bootrev5 CD, I get lock ups when a CD driver is, I think, trying to be installed. Rebooting the computer sets off multiple windows with error messages. One of them is about “cwsdpmi” that can’t run. The date and time was also whacked.

I take it that some low level dos programs have to be run to bypass the Dell bios lock?

We have to do a system restore to clean things up again. Not sure what’s hapnin’ but maybe someone has seen this problem.

Thanks

So guys, a silly question, but do you have to have an E1705 for this to work? I have an M1710 I'd like to try it with. I saw mZimm's comments, but was wondering if the iso still works.

Works fine as long as you have a 7900 Go GS.

I do, thank you. Are there any known problems or other differences I might face with my m1710 or can I pretty much use this thread as a guide?

Thanks but when does the n00b one see this?
I don't think I got to any options? Can you point me to setup page for n00bs? I found one but it really looked dated.

TIA

Insert the boot CD, hit F12 and select the CD/DVD option. The next pop up should give you three or four options, I can't remember. But choose the second one, which is max memory. The another window will pop up and hit enter. Then you just choose which clock frequency you want, and type "nvflash (insert clock frequency here)" (except without quotes). hit y for yes and then reboot and you are good.

You can follow what I just said, and I think earlier in the thread or the original 7900 Overclock thread, there was a link to a very thorough walkthrough on how to do it. Search and ye shall find.

Overclocked to 650/600 I got 137 fps on the css stress test. I used the same game settings as falerus, although I believe that the stress test ignores them.
