can't get to internet, please help! - Page 2

correction time, the correct spelling is aohell
and aol time warner is the full name of the company. TW made this huge mistake a few years ago to hook up with aohell and I think they've regretted it ever since. Might want to ask your uncle why he doesn't just get regular TW Roadrunner service. That's what I use and there's really nothing to it. Plug in the cable modem and hook it up to a router, then surf (with no aohell)

well, they all have aol and are happy with it, i guess. never had any problems, at least. so it becomes a hassle for him to change his e-mail and stuff. plus they are letting me stay here for free until i find a job, i can't exactly demand that they change their isp just because it is more convenient for me

ps, what do they do that is so terrible? i hate them, but my uncle needs specific examples of bad stuff they do.

well, for one they force you to connect through them. It's not like a normal ISP where you just power up and are connected and can feel free to use any browser you want.
2. They're software is the root of all evil. My wife's cousin used them because her mom paid for it, but every problem with her computer went back to aohell. That's mostly because their software is one giant bug.
3. They force you to announce to the world you're an aohell user with their stupid @aol e-mail address
4. I've heard the newsgroups on them contain hardly any groups at all
5. You can get better support from a group like this if you don't say you're an aohell user.. (I'm surprised nobody flamed you for mentioning you were using aohell, but that was probably because you weren't willingly using it).
I suppose I could go on an on, but I think the best summation would be it's like paying Lexus price for a Kia.. as in it's premium priced, but for defective merchandise..

So the DNS settings you had in ipconfig were from AOL's software when it was installed.

Wow. And people say that we're the evil empire ; that sounds pretty bad. Glad you got it sorted though.
